This is by far the best native implementation I've seem so far on OSX. I absolutely love the fullscreen mode and it worked perfectly on a external LCD attached. I have it setup at work so that my Windows box show up in full screen mode on the external LCD and I just use OSX on the internal screen. The only complaint I have is that it's still not as fast as the X11 implementation as I can definitely feel the lag when scrolling.

The terminal window has to do with Apple X11's default xinitrc script.

Edit /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc to comment out that line.
