I have used MKVtools to convert a few videos to AVI videos. The reason is usually so I can transfer the video to my TiVo and have the subtitles go with the video. If I send MKV to the TiVo, the subtitles get stripped. Some times, MKVtools works great but if I set different configurations than letting it go by default, then I end up with strange results. Recently, I am unable to convert an MKV and have it convert the whole video. It converts about half of the video. I have tried 4 times using different formats and they all look fine except I don't have the full video. This particular MKV contains both French and English audio plus subtitles. I think if it only contained one language and subtitles, it would work but since I have to deselect a couple of things, it seems to throw it off.
I wish I knew what causes this to only convert half the video. The developer's website doesn't really have much support. They suggest you go to a video forum where knowledgeable people can help.
The $4.99 price is certainly fair although I would like it better if it wasn't connected to my computer since I tend to get a new computer often or a new hard drive.
