I've used the Windows version for some time without problems including an install via Parallels on this Mac, so I was curious to try this out on OS X.
To my surprise it turned my 8 Core Mac Pro with 32 gigs of Ram into a horribly slow, unresponsive mess with frequent spinning ball and that doesn't happen even when I'm running several resource hungry apps like Photoshop and Lightroom at the same time on heavy tasks.
I looked inside the activity monitor for clues but couldn't see anything obviously wrong, yet it was patently clear from the sudden slow down while Avast was running a scan that something was wrong, so I uninstalled it and normal service resumed. I've not seen problems like this in the past when trying Sophos or Clamav.
I just tried the demo but it can't find my VM. I have Windows 7 running via the latest version of Parallels on 10.7.2. I already own idefrag, so I was a little surprised to find this problem.
Nothing wrong at all with the quality of results it produces but a 64-bit version that works with CS5 is badly needed along with a more modern interface.
1Password has always been my favourite Mac app but the upgrade to 3.9 through MAS has been anything but smooth and I've written to support so hopefully they'll get back before long.
The part which surprises me is that Agile has always been totally reliable previously for upgrades but not this time. I can't even reinstall 3.9 because the MAS thinks it's already installed, even though I trashed it. The key in the menu bar is somehow still present, though it never worked and there was some kind of crazy permissions issue where 3.9 looked like it was owned by the system.
Agile enjoy enormous good will form the majority of their customers so I am hoping solutions can soon be found. Right now I wish I'd waited before automatically assuming it would all be an improvement. It actually seems to have lost some key features.
It's all sorted now thanks to some assistance on the 1Password forums and 3.9 is working smoothly for me just like every previous version. I think the chief cause of the problem was that I didn't realise I had to delete 3.8.5 before installing 3.9, never having needed to do so before.
I am curious to discover what version 4 will include having effectively bought "sight unseen" in advance without any indication of what it will include. That is not something I would normally do but I am optimistic that Agile wouldn't come out with a major update that didn't offer some major advances.
If I could, I'd give this a -5 rating. It has never recorded sound ever since I bought it over 2 years ago and even with a new update released today that was supposed to fix it all there is no sound.
I talked online with their technician who came up with some excuse saying that it was no longer possible to record sound in Lion and then he closed the chat window without another word while I was still typing. Truly terrible.
Inside the description at the App Store it says this version offers "improved audio record..."
There is actually a version 3 of Sequence available complete with a new dock icon but still after all this time there is no audio even with a brand new rewrite created specifically for Lion.
I have been waiting more than 2 years for a version of Sequence that records audio and I'm beginning to think it will never happen.
1Password continues to impress with constant improvements. In fact I even decided to buy the Windows version as well.
Although 1Password is rock solid and very well thought out the best part is actually the company behind it because customer service and technical assistance beats any other software developer out there by a garden mile.
I can't really comment specifically on Lion because I haven't installed it so far. I purchased a new Mac Pro about a month ago and should be eligible for a free upgrade but the signup system at http://www.apple.com/uk/macosx/uptodate/ doesn't recognise my computer's serial number even though it is already registered with them as a computer. After all the time Apple has had to prepare for this I am surprised they couldn't get this right.
The question I want answered before I try this is how does it work? How do we know that we aren't blocking Google etc. but making our information available elsewhere? When you try to install the extension you get a warning saying:
"Install extensions only from sources you trust. Extensions can modify the appearance and behavior of Safari, and access your private information at websites."
I like the sound of this extension but it would help if the developer clarified how it works.
