Hopefully the Safari 5 extensions will allow the sort of things that Glims does so that we can use something that is actually supported (not to mention being developed…)
Of the launchers I've found, this is the best one (actually it is the only one that works on Snow Leopard without some ridiculous 5-10 second delay bringing up the search panel or some other bug).
My only complaint is that it does not bring up the previous search upon activation, and there doesn't seem to be a way to do so. Mac OS X has a bad tendency of opening programs up in the background, so I often have to launch a program twice or even three times to get it to come to the front. In Quicksilver, this was easy because I could just do Command-Space, Return, but in Butler I have to retype the name of the program. Am I missing this option in the preferences? It shouldn't be too hard to implement.
This was quitting on load for me, but I deleted my old ~/Library/Application Support/Quicksilver and ~/Library/Preferences/com.blacktree.Quicksilver.plist folders/files, and it works now.
This seems to have fixed the issue where it would not reload my tabs unless I opened a link from another application. My only complaint now regards search shortcut keys. I would like it if they could be activated anywhere, not just when you are in the search box. Also, when changing the search site when text is in the box, I would like it if it just changed the site and didn't open a search in a new window. (This is similar to how Acid Search worked back when it worked). That way, if I start typing a search and realize it is in the wrong engine, I don't have to cut the search, change the engine, and paste it back in just to get it in that tab.
Also, this doesn't really matter, but technically, the options in New Tabs should be a group of radio buttons that are disabled by a checkbox. See http://developer.apple.com/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/AppleHIGuidelines/XHIGControls/XHIGControls.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP30000359-SW4
This latest release has a strange bug in it. If your keyboard shortcut includes the option key, it downloads the page instead of loading it. It is probably catching the option key as being held down when it loads the page, which defaults to downloading the page.
This looks good, but it doesn't seem to support scripts in the /Library/iTunes/Scripts folder. It only works with the ~/Library/iTunes/Scripts/ folder. Please change this.
Although Glims is still in an infant stage and has some issues, I highly recommend it for one reason: the developers are highly responsive to bug reports and suggestions. If there is something that doesn't work correctly or something that you would like added, just head over to their website and leave them a note on the feedback page. They are a little slow in integrating new suggestions, as they are receiving plenty of them, but they promise to respond to every single request.
I'm not sure if this app can do what I want it to do. I would like to keep the automatic enabling and disabling of the backlight, but I want to raise the minimum threshold of ambient light required to turn it on. The way it is now, I cant see the keys very well on my early 2008 MBP because the letters are so similar in color to the keys themselves. I would like for the back light to come on in lighter situations than it currently does.
If this program cannot actually do this, could you add it as a feature?
This works great, except there are two bugs that bother me quite a bit. First, the mouse occaisionally will dissappear on the controling computer. Click will make it reappear, but it is still quite annoying as you can imagine. Second, when double tap is enabled, moving the mouse to the top of the screen and clicking causes the foreground window to move into the background instead of click on the menubar as expected.
This won't accept Control-Spacae as a shortcut. I am trying to dump Quicksilver triggers for iTunes as they are kind of shaky, but I want to keep my shortcuts.
