I posted the message below under the "Troubleshooting" section, but I am not sure how many folks will see it there, so I decided to post it as a comment as well. ----- I purchased this app two hours ago. I figured that for $2.00, even if it turned out to be a crappy app, it would be no big loss. So, after the installation, I launched the app, and then proceeded to provide my Facebook login data. I logged in successfully to my Facebook account, and the app does in fact show my Facebook account name in the "Connected as" section of the app's window. I left the "Export File Type" option at "xls". Then I assumed that I was supposed to click on the "Get Data" button in order to begin importing the data from my Facebook account. Well, that was one hour and fifty minutes ago, and the progress bar still says "Loading data..." Now, I know that I have over 4,000 FB friends, and I suspected that it would take a while to import so much data into the app, however, something clearly appears to be wrong here. I thought that perhaps there might be a problem because I am simultaneously logged into my Facebook account with the Firefox web browser. However, even after logging out of my FB account with Firefox, the Friends Export app is still just hanging with "Loading data..." Is anyone getting the same results as me with the app hanging for so long? I won't rate the app for now, just in case I am doing something wrong.

Update: Be advised that after waiting for two hours and twenty minutes, I decided to cancel the "Loading data" operation. However, repeatedly clicking on the "Cancel" button does nothing. Furthermore, because that is the front window in the app, even clicking on the "Disconnect" button -- so that the app is disconnected from my Facebook account -- is useless. Likewise, selecting the "Quit Friends export" option under the "Friends export" menu is useless. The same holds true when I try using the "Quit" option in the dock icon. I finally had to do a forced quit with option-command-escape.

Folks, just so you know, the developer -- Giorgos -- has fixed his app so that it is now working properly for me. Please refer to the "Troubleshooting" tab above for his and my comments. Thanks! So in appreciation, here is my little promo for Giorgos: I have always backed up my Facebook users list in a BBEdit text file. However, using this app makes it so much easier because it is automatic, plus it downloads a lot more user data as well. It probably doesn't need to be said, but it is a wise idea to back up your FB friends list. You never know when Facebook might have serious server problems, and all of your friends data could be lost. Or what if you have had your Facebook account for years -- as I have had -- and suddenly, someone hacks into your account, and you can no longer access it? If you need to open a new account, you would lose your entire friends list, and you would need to start from scratch. Wouldn't it be nice in such a case to at least have a friends backup list, so that you can contact them as your time permits? So as you can see, this is a very useful and practical app for serious Facebook users.

Hello Giorgos, I am happy to report a big improvement in your app. This time it downloaded by Facebook friends database in just a few minutes. I was also able to save the downloaded database as an Excel .xls file without a problem. However, there is one issue. Currently, Facebook reports that I have 4,192 friends. But Friends Export only downloaded the records for 4,043 friends. I realize that people sometimes deactivate their accounts, suddenly unfriend you, or even block you. However, there is a big difference between 4,192 and 4,043. Do you have any idea what might be causing this? I really like the fact that I can easily sort my friends' names alphabetically in the first column. Allow me to make a design suggestion. If it is at all possible, one very nice improvement would be if in the "Profile URL" column, the URLs were actually active, clickable links which would take you to that person's timeline. If this same feature -- the clickable links -- could be implemented in the exported .xls file, that would be great as well. Thanks for getting your app working properly. :)

You are welcome, my friend. I sent you another email a short while in which I make a few other suggestions for your consideration. Keep up the good work!

BLAH! I am NOT happy! I just upgraded to Firefox 29.0, and those darn tabs are back at the top of the window again! So, I Googled real quick to find the solution, which was easy enough. Sadly, using the "about:config" command to access Firefox's hidden options, and then double-clicking "browser.tabs.onTop" to set it to "false" is not working. Even though the "Value" column now says "false", those darn tabs are STILL at the top of window, even after I restart Firefox. What's up guys? You say it is more intuitive to have the tabs at the top of the window. I disagree. I DON'T like them there. Thank you.

For those of you who are wondering, I am talking about the instructions on this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/put-tabs-back-on-bottom

@BigJohnson: That's the point. The "browser.tabs.onTop" is a hidden preference, but as I said, that preference IS NOT WORKING now. I think I am going to reinstall 28.0 and see if I can undo the damage that 29.0 did with the tabs.

Wonderful! I just reinstalled 28.0, and my tabs are back where I want them . . . BELOW THE LOCATION BAR AND FAVORITES BAR. :)

Thanks for the link, Schmye-Bubbula. I appreciate it. Of course, the irony of this situation is that we should not even need an add-on to put the tabs back on the bottom again, being as Firefox already has the code to do that. It's just that the "browser.tabs.onTop" option is not working properly right now in 29.0 I wonder how much longer that add-on will continue to work. One internal code change could probably break it, if the FF development team is really intent on keeping the tabs at the top. We'll see.

Ha! I'm not surprised to hear that, Schmye-Bubbula. It looks like the FF development team may possibly be playing hardball with us. Maybe tabs on top are here to stay this time. :(

Wonderful! Now I am wondering if I should just stick with 28.0 until it dies, or move back up to 29.0. I see no urgency to upgrade every time Mozilla puts out a new version, unless there is an important security issue. I don't even use all of FF's current feature set as it is.

I hope that this tabs problem isn't a "Resistance-is-futile" issue. In other words, rather than strong-arming us, I am hoping that in their rush to get 29.0 out the door, maybe they simply forgot or overlooked activating the "browser.tabs.onTop" option. I mean, it doesn't make sense that we can change the value from "true" to "false", but have it not work. We'll see. If there is no fix between now, and by 30.0, then I would begin to think that they really are strong-arming us, and that it is now THEIR way, or the highway. I hope that I am wrong, because I really like Firefox, and have used it for years.

Please note that the download link for this app is dead. However, this same app can be downloaded on the Sourceforge website at the following URL: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sqlitebrowser/

BTW, I just used this app on Mavericks to open an old Scrabble game dictionary database file in order to determine what words are included in the dictionary. :)

How is this app feature-wise compared to the overly expensive PopChar X? Thanks!

I recently purchased Filter Forge 3.0 along with the 4.0 upgrade to use as a plugin with Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended. This is a very powerful graphic effects program, the full power of which I have barely touched, being as I don't take the time to create my own filters. Thanks to the thousands of free filters which are regularly uploaded to the Filter Forge website -- which one can download into their own copy of Filter Forge -- one will never run out of new ways to enhance their images in Adobe Photoshop -- and in other compatible host programs -- with high-quality borders, textures and other amazing effects.

Why is the MacUpdate version of this app always behind the Mac App Store version? Even when one uses the built-in "Check for Updates" feature of the app, it STILL does not yield the same version that is available on the Mac App Store. I realize that this is not MacUpdate's fault, but rather lies with the developers. The point is, this obvious partiality towards Mac App Store users makes the rest of us feel like second class users of the product. This should not be.

I have been using Carbon Copy Cloner for well over three years now since the days when it was still donationware. Before that time, I tried a few other backup solutions such as ChronoSync. I can happily report that in all this time, CCC has never failed me. It is stable, it is reliable and it is an absolute necessity for any Macintosh user who is serious about protecting themselves from unexpected machine failures and other issues which may result in data loss. The bottom line is that with my daily CCC scheduled backups to an external drive, I have total peace of mind. I just don't have to worry about it. My ever-changing data is safe, and my life's work is safe as well. For those of you who may be prone to complain about the price of this app, let me just say that after CCC saves you from just one important project loss, you will realize that it is worth every penny. CCC is one indispensable utility which you simply do not want to do without. Kudos to the developer for one fine product!

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but this app does not appear to retain its chosen theme across machine reboots. In other words, the preferred theme has to be selected again whenever the machine is rebooted, because the app reverts to its default theme.

Very cool app for those of us who like it quick and simple. Thank you developer for making this app freely available to the Macintosh community, and for your years of dedication to its continual development.
