SideEffects updated to version 1.9 for Mavericks
I get asked that a lot.. not that I know of. Remember I'm just the guy who makes the installer. There are three developers involved with this project. The guy to ask would be CooViewerZoom: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/40989/colorfulsidebar
So MacOS X 10.9 Mavericks was released today. Luckily so was ColorfulSidebar by CooViewerZoom (though not on MacUpdate at time of writing). I have yet to upgrade to Mavericks and build a new SideEffects - hopefully within the next few days - so I haven't tried this, but this would be the method.. 1. Grab a copy of the new ColorfulSidebar.bundle at http://goo.gl/J2lcfT 2. In the finder type cmd-shift-g 3. Paste in the following: ~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins 4. Replace the old bundle with the new one. Restart.. Good luck!
I have tested this method on Mavericks and can confirm it works. Huge thanks to CooViewerZoom for the update to ColorfulSidebar : )
Currently SideEffects 1.8.7 won't work with MacOS X 10.9 Mavericks.. uninstall SideEffects 1.8.7 to prevent strange behaviour in the sidebar. I am awaiting a response from the SideEffects co-developers on the other side of the planet to me to see if they intend to update their respective components. Will post here if / when I get a reply.. Thanks, Simon
Apparently XtraFinder gives colors in 10.9 https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/42067/xtrafinder
I agree with some of the comments that this is the best web extractor. I tried them all on several occasions, and always came back to Blue Crab.
Hello again, loyal color cult chanting for freedom at the grey Apple ivory tower.. I'm hoping 126.96.36.199 is it.. the one where I can finally remove the Beta label from SideEffects by nailing that installation issue: no-change / grey after install.. So please download, test and enjoy.. If no joy please post your comments here.. or email me: email@example.com or visit my blog for solutions: http://macmatrix.blogspot.com/p/sideeffects.html
I service many client's Macs, and while Mac Keeper may have the features to make it a suite as capable as any other, Zeobit's spammy and deceitful marketing policies (see Speedtest.net), installation practices (extremely hard to remove) and the behaviour of the software (overkill / all-pervading / invasive) mean that the only recommendation I'll give is "Stay Away". So, Zeobit, while number-of-features would normally get you 5-stars it's all those negative features that make my job harder that pull your rating down. I'd only consider giving you 5 stars if there was a rating for successfully conning people into infecting their systems.
MacUpdate link to previous version: SideEffects 188.8.131.52 is now available as an option.
To those experiencing grey icons after installing version 1.8.6: Have a look to see if EasySIMBL's "Use SIMBL" checkbox is checked - if not, then make sure it is (and please let my know - I'll make sure to fix that in 184.108.40.206. EasySIMBL seems to require a few nudges before it "kicks in" - I have yet to pinpoint the exact place, but when I find out I'll include the nudge in the next version too. In the meantime, any of the following may help: relaunching the Finder, re-installing SideEffects, logging out and in, restarting, fiddling with that "Use SIMBL" box.
This may help: Get BatCHmod and open it: http://www.macupdate.com/download/6440/BatChmod17b2.zip cmd-shift-g in FInder, go to ∼/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins Drop colorfulsidebar.bundle onto BatCHmod's window and change owner to your username, apply to enclosed Maybe wake up EasySIMBL by unchecking / rechecking the colorfulsidebar box, relaunch finder, logout, restart etc.. Although Apple Packagemaker has a great weakness in this regard, correct permissions will hopefully be part of the fix in 220.127.116.11.
Although I recommend this version which always seems to start working at some point, previous version is here: http://simonbarnett.co.za/downloads/SideEffects18.104.22.168.dmg
A great improvement over SIMBL. The user account based location is part of it's improved functionality. Looking at the Console logs, EasySIMBL takes preference over SIMBL, though to reduce requests I recommend uninstalling SIMBL using the uninstaller provided with SIMBL http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/18351/simbl
Great tool :) Thanks!
