Edward Snowden frowns upon Dropbox (17 July story in the Guardian): http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/jul/17/edward-snowden-dropbox-privacy-spideroak PCWorld (18 July) follows up with a response from Dropbox on the subject: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2455215/edward-snowden-dropbox-is-hostile-to-privacy.html Simply as FYI (not to start a debate, as this has been debated plenty already).

Use Tor, paint a target on your back... http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-28162273 Not that this should be surprising, really.

For what it's worth, I could not get this to install via App Store/Software Update. Despite installation-like progress and restarts, it never correctly dumped into the SMC update after restart (and App Store showed it multiple times under "Updates Installed in last 30 days." But I was able to install it successfully by downloading the update separately (download link above on MacUpdate) and applying it manually.

It looks like Abine is transitioning this product... the plug-in is only available for Chrome/Firefox now (as of this posting) and it looks like you need to create an account with them to access the download for the browser and other features... I guess we'll see where this goes. Other than that, this has been my go-to privacy plug-in for a few years now and continues to work okay in Safari (if you still have a copy of the plug-in).

The new version now supports Safari and has a pretty robust Web dashboard/integration if you bother creating an account with them. So far, it seems like a solid step forward from the previous version, even at the Free account level.

In my opinion, this is the best photo stitching app in its class for the Mac. It blows away anything priced in the "affordable" segment ($50 and less), both with it's automatic detecting/stitching and with the level of professional/manual control it provides (which is practically overwhelming for a new user... I'm still trying to learn a lot of the app's features). I do wish the UX was more Mac-like, but the performance is there and that's what really counts (including taking advantage of multiple cores and kicking out multi-GB PSD files in remarkably quick time). If you're interested in creating the absolute best panoramas possible, give it a try.

This is an amazingly solid video downloader, especially for a free offering. The user interface may be mediocre (Java-esque) and it's missing an obvious/small feature (automatically naming the video you're downloading), but it's very reliable with Vimeo and YouTube, even for Vevo's videos...
