I've been using Chikoo for a few months now. I organise a growing media library of about 570 titles. I needed something much more powerful than the Finder, so I could sort and find things based on attributes other than a file's name. I'd describe Chikoo as a 'collection manager'. Though it looks straightforward - and it really is to use - it means any collection of files can be archived with detailed, bespoke metadata attached. You set up your own attributes. Smart Folders can then be made to return relevant subsets of your collection. It's rather like iTunes for any type of file (before iTunes got horribly bulky). There is nothing else out there that quite does what Chikoo does. I've enjoyed a near constant dialogue with the developer, who is responsive and updates the app regularly. Features are constantly being added and even my strange suggestions are replied to almost instantly. Refreshingly, Chikoo does one thing really well. It is fast and powerful without being cluttered. Though currently less than v1 Chikoo is very stable. If you have a collection of files to manage and filenames or folders aren't enough Chikoo is excellent. It's become an indispensable app that I use daily. Highly recommended.
