I am wanting to leave a question here: I upgraded to 10.9.4 last night and the system works without issues for the most part, I did notice a small graphical glitch though when using the zoom feature on any site like youtube which has video. there seems to be a tiny hair line that follows the cursor at a distance, it's not not noticeable unless on white, or you're actually looking at it. I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro 13" Retina with iris graphics Haswell CPU I just wondered if anyone else has noticed it, like i said, it only happens on sites like youtube, and youtube has been the main one ive seen so far. I did a PRAM reset in case there were bad settings, but this looks to be a software, and not hardware thing, if someone could try to reproduce the problem, or has reproduced it please let me know. Thanks
According to tinker tool system, disabling the startup chime on 10.7 and newer is no longer supported by the software.I would suggest a freel alternative that should work for anyone is to hit mute on your keyboard before restarting, this will mute the chime and just unmute when the system is restarted. I found this out by accent when I frogot to unmute my sound and I restarted and wondered where the sound went on startup. I have to say though, unless i'm unaware of it, I'm suprised that someone hasn't come upt with a way to modify the firmware to insert a custom sound. Unless the chime is in the firmware that can't be flashed, then that's understable. Just some thoughts, hope the tip helps someone who wasn't aware of it. Note, powerP macs may not work with this rule I believe their sound management was different from intel based macs.
I have tried pretty much every virtual machine software package that is well known. If i was someone who really lived in virtual machines for work or needed one any lenguh of time I would probably continue to pay for VMware fusion updates. However, the main reason I used virtualbox or vmware was early on for windows compatibility which the need isn't that great anymore, or what I need on occasaion usually works in wine. The second reason is, for Linux which the need for a virtual machine isn't demanded anymore right now as I now have a physical non apple machine I can test linux on. The other thing is virtualbox is a nice cross platform solution if i need to transfer vms between machines, or just want to whip up a quick vm to test a distro before deciding to employ it on the media server/desktop. current machines are a late 2013 macbook pro retina 13" and a HP Pavailion as the linux desktop/media server. I've never had a hard time getting help with Vbox when i've needed it either. and while it may not support every single distro of linux in name i've found if the distro in question is based on a known distro setting up the vm for that distro has worked well. Also setting the general linux options seem to work ok as well . The HP is an older system so while it does have a 64-bit cpu it's not equiped with VT-X so vms run slower and are limited to 32 bit so that makes it nice being able to copy the vm to the macbook as it will run at faster speeds if i need to test something that requires more. Overall I am pleased with the work Sun started, and Oracle has continued with this project.
I wanted to get some feedback I 've noticed in recent versions of chrome it starts up on system boot regardless of whether reopen windows is checked or not, which I don't use. Now i did find out removing the startup item fixes this, however I can't find any official documentation from google on this, or a browser setting. Also one thing i noticed is when starting up it puts a notification icon in the menu bar as well. The question is, does it just take removing the startup item to fix this or do i need to do something else to mae sure it carries past chrome updates? thanks.
I used to use adium exclusively years ago and I've also used the cross platform Pidgin from which Adium was created. Now i wanted to find out if there was any reason to continue using Adium at this point. messages/ichat seem to do the most popular services adium was pushed for, there is FaceTime for video/audio there is Skype for cross platform AV for mac to other operating systems to communicate. I also noticed adium isn't updated as much as it used to be so I was wondering if the project is dying off or has died off.
I wanted to ask, is GarageBand a suitable starter app for someone who wants to do music professionally but doesn't have the funds or have the experience with pro audio tools, so i can start small and work up? I have a background in production but mostly audio I am a seasoned guitar player but never really invested in any software to enhance that much.
hi i was wondering if someone could help me here. I own a copy of Final cut express 4 and need to update however my old macbook quit and i have a new retina macbook which shipped with mavericks and the software update doesn't pick up the update. I'm not ready to invest in fcpx as i prefer the old style interface and that's what I learned on. Could someone provide me links to download my updates at this point? thanks.
I just wanted to leave a comment and say I enjoy messing around with Secondlife at times i really don't use it on a regular basis, but it's fun to explore. I wanted to also say how impressed i am to say my retina macbook pro late 2013 13" does really well on the graphics with the iris graphics. So far no slow downs and great detail. it only starts to really show a noticeable slow down on ultra but it's not huge so i put it back down on high. it also depends on the environment it seems as to how graphics are effected. I'm not much of a gamer though, i work with video and other forms of media for the most part. I've tried second life on my 2005 eMac back in 2005 the radeon 9600 card wasn't too bad but it was certainly slower. my white macbook wasn't the best when i tried it as the intel graphics back then weren't a gaming card, now i have it on this retina MBP and i think this has been the best i've seen it. I also noticed the fan is well controlled too it runs when it has to then slows down to silent again.
I was wondering if anyone else was having this issue? I recently bought a new 13" retina MBP, which works great, when I install MMumenu 2.1.4 (latest) it does not start at login even though it's checked in preferences. On my old Macbook 2,1 running lion 10.7.5, it worked fine and it had a login item. there is no login item on the new macbook u;under mavericks 10.9.1. I'm thinking it's MUmenu specific as all my other apps that have a start at login option work fine. Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!
Hi all, Was wondering if anyone else was experiencing an issue with youtube, where unless you use flash directly, the highest resolution is 720p. It had been working all along until today, and now when i use one of my downloader extensions either in safari or firefox, the highest res for mp4 download has maxed at 720p even if there is larger.
Thanks Marc for confirming there wasn't something wrong with my computer, more then there already is. I can still download up to 720p in mp4. I have an older macbook and it's dying, and unable to buy a new one currently so i use clicktoflash to download videos from youtube to play on a flash drive connected to a blu-ray player, or stream using dlna from the mac to the players which puts the cpu load on the player so it's easier on the mac. My TVs are 1080p so i like to download the native res if possible. Again Thanks.
