I had been struggling to find a simple and inexpensive way to convert a collection of large .vob files to .wmv format. This freeware gem did a quick job of it, and the results were of excellent quality.
I managed to download it from the App Store. Installation on my 2011 MacBook Pro hit a snag, though. An alert message came up claiming that my drive was damaged and Mavericks couldn't be installed unless I first erased the drive or restored it from a back-up or blah blah. Hard to believe the drive is damaged, as the machine has seen only light use and the drive has tons of unused space. This is the first time in over 20 years of Mac experience that I've had any kind of problem with an OS installation. Anyway, I'm now on an odyssey to retrieve my files.
Update: After running some diagnostics off of a 2-year-old DiskWarrior disc (no repairs done -- just the diagnostics), a re-attempt to install the OS was successful. ???!!!
Very useful widget! For some reason, this version installs (in the correct folder) but doesn't appear on my Dashboard. Mysterious.
Manually dragging the widget from user/Library/Widgets to hard drive/Library/Widgets made it appear again.
This version (2.8.0) repeatedly crashes on launch on my system. Looking forward to seeing all the new features once the problem is fixed.
First impression: More power under the hood, tighter integration, shorter throw on controls -- like a well-tuned Italian race car.
In the 2 weeks since installation, I've noticed that one of my connected drives spontaneously unmounts and then remounts a short while later. Also, I'm not sure that Calendar syncing is as quick as it was under the preceding OS version. These are not major concerns, and I expect that Apple will follow up with refinements in due course. The centralized notifications are very helpful. Still very pleased overall.
An earlier version of ScanSnap Manager (3.0.20) is on my system but the installer for 3.2.50 does not recognize it. I am getting the following error message: "Cannot run the update because the target ScanSnap Manager is not installed. ScanSnap Manager can’t be installed on this computer."
vinjah's solution worked! Many thanks!!
I really like this app. Unfortunately, the ability to print subtle shadows behind text vanished when I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion (and I have the latest version of *everything*). I do not experience this problem with other apps on my system. I have corresponded with the developer and hope they can produce a fix in time (hopefully sooner rather than later).
An Intel-only version (dated 10-Sep-2011) can be downloaded from http://www.namera.jp/sweetmail/Welcome.html The GUI hasn't changed but it's still very very fast!
I'm very happy with Skype's call and video quality. It has been *completely* reliable, and the UI is intuitive for me. I am puzzled by the complaints I read.
I have nominated the developer for a Nobel Prize.
