I'm currently using a second MBP as external monitor. I've installed Air Display Host on my primary MBP and run AirDisplay.app on the second MBP. The AirDisplay.app is the client program. The $20 license is supposed to be used on the secondary device, so I've entered it in the AirDisplay.app. Both MacBooks are on the same wifi, I just told my primary to connect to my secondary. At first, it entered in a 'window mode' on the secondary, so I clicked full screen (using the mouse pad of the secondary ;)). It did not behave as expected, as it started using my secondary as my primary: i.e., my dock moved to the other macbook. According to the FAQ of the developer, that is something they could not automagically correct, so I just changed this behavior (using the trackpad of my primary macbook) via System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement. Just drag the dock from one box to the other. First thoughts of the performance: it's okay, but could be better. There's a bit of lag, clearly there's compression on the data stream, as I can see artifacts on my pdfs when scrolling. I wonder how to improve the performance. Don't get me wrong, it's good enough for writing/reading.
Forgot to add: my primary is an early 2011 MBP 13" with SSD and 16GB. The secondary is a late 2011 MBP 13" with 4GB.
I don't find this service very robust. First of all, this software does not implement the locale settings of my OSX. It shows the amount of remaining data in a way I'm not used to read, by using a comma instead of a dot. This way I don't have the right feeling about the status of a backup. I have told the customer service about this problem half a year ago, but they have not solved it yet: very sloppy! Same goes for the settings on the website. Also, I keep receiving emails that an external drive hasn't been connected in quite some time. That is not true. I've booted with the drive connected and left it running for a complete day. The application was clearly uploading some stuff, but somehow it thinks it had nothing to do with my external drive. As I'm a laptop user this is highly inconvenient. I'm supposed to somehow hope it backups all my data, because there is no way to clearly see what the status is: the "to do log" in the software is bullocks.
I think Evernote is the most hyped and overrated app of current time. The interface does not help in decluttering your data or notes. The worst thing is, everything is 'online'. Whilst I have a local copy of my Evernote notebooks, the Evernote Safari plugin does not talk with the local copy but only with the online account. That way, the free 60 MB data allowance per month will be gone very fast. Also, the Safari plugin needs to be logged in like a website, so if you've deleted your history you have to log in again: this could be avoided by using the local copy. The good thing about Evernote: I like their logo, I like elephants!
Easy to use Latex environment, I haven't encountered any crashes/instabilities and the developer is highly responsive to email :)
Can somebody explain to me why the saved pdf displays advertisements, while I'm using Adblock in Safari? I'm using the trial of Web Snapper 3.3.4 and I'm not talking about the banner in the PDF saying that I'm using the trial ;) but real advertisements. My workflow was: drag webpage url from safari url bar to Web Snapper.
I've tried the trial, by opening a PDF I created myself and afterwards noticing PDF pen made a horrible Watermark in it. IN MY PDF?! What an arrogance!
I've been using this tool as my transcoder for quite some time. The ease of use, stability and speed are superb. I usually convert from FLAC to ALAC, so I just drop a folder with some FLAC's and a nice album art (as folder.jpg or cover.jpg in said folder) on the XLD app in the dock. After some quick edits of metadata, I'm all set. Highly recommended, don't forget it's donationware: it's worth it! :)
I don't get it. The first screenshot is from http://www.snippetsapp.com, the second is from http://www.snippets.me ?
Now I get it: http://www.snippetsapp.com/blog/new-snippets.html Hey everyone, how are you? About a year ago we started working on the new project. We’ve taken an idea of Snippets and built a new, more powerful service. Today I’d like to introduce it to you. But first of all I’d like to say THANK YOU to all of you for support. It couldn’t be possible without you. We decided to turn Snippets into a platform with the apps for Mac and Windows and the cloud for syncing and providing additional services such as sharing either privately or publicly. Our future plans are to release web app as well as the app for the iPad. With the new project we are moving away from the domain snippetsapp.com to snippets.me. This is not only better and simpler domain, the main reason of doing that is that Snippets is not just a simple Mac app anymore. Apps we are releasing today are early featureless alpha versions. Our main concern for now is to implement syncing because it is the core of the apps and it is the hardest feature. When we ensure sync is working properly we will be rolling out more features. With the new project we also designed a new logo. Here is how it looks like: I’d like to invite you to try the apps and sync, please report any problems you are experiencing. We’ve also created a special section on our new website that allows you to suggest your ideas and vote on others suggestions, so, we can see what most of you want. For the further updates and announcements please take a look and subscribe at our new website at snippets.me.
Due to the recent revelations regarding the human rights privacy violations of the NSA, I am making this application free and will likely be open sourcing it when I have time. I hope you find it useful. REQUIRES OSX 10.8 OR LATER. A simple app for encrypting and decrypting files and folders. Uses AES 256bit encryption in CBC mode and can securely shred old unencrypted files after they are encrypted. File format is open and can be decrypted on any platform using openssl and the user chosen password. Internationalized for english, french, german and italian. What's new There was a problem with the last version and the 10.7 SDK. This version is 10.8 64bit specific.
So, the developer made it available for free. Very sympathetic!
Intuitive program, responsive developer. Good application with the right balance of power and control over the photo library. To much of an automated process of cleaning up is tricky, but this application gives enough feedback of the process without you having to click to many buttons. Especially usefull are the levels of autoselect criteria. You could, for example, load a couple of events from an Aperture library and load some folders from Finder. In the settings menu, you can choose if photo's from a library (like Aperture) or plain files are prioritized. That way, I was able to delete some 'duplicates of duplicates of duplicates' nasty Windows-era backups :) I highly recommend this app for your cleanup.
