Whamb creates problems with hard drive file structure so I need to make a "fsck" (or repair disk) each time I use it

IKARUS  Whamb is a nice and small audio player. With less bloat and taste for system resources I like it more than iTunes. Still Whamb suffers from a lack of some important features. These include:

- equalizer presets

- more flexible playlist management

- professionally designed skins

ARTHUR  For those having problems with deleting playlist entries, disabling the warning dialogue in the preferences fixes it.

Also I had some problems installing skins. Try this:

1) Download it is and remove the .tgz from the filename so that is reads .wskin

2) Then instead of dragging it into the app which doesn't work anyway, from Whamb select File->Open and choose the *.wskin file. It should install automatically (without and notification) and appear in the Skins menu.

TIGERABBIT  Sound quality is noticeably better for most sources than any other player I've tried. For this reason alone, I will stick with Whamb. It needs refinement, however: Problems I've had include inability to edit playlists (can't delete entries). Application hangs or crashes if directed to non-active stream address. Cannot handle .mpu - type files- I must use another player app to extract the http: address of such sources first. Whamb usually crashes or freezes if I drop an .mpu or .pls file on it. Handles streaming .ogg very well- stable and fantastic sound for the bitrates and quality levels involved. However, it does not rip .ogg streams properly- the files resulting from such rips are unplayable. Version 1.2 is freeware, but still has a place to put in registration. I registered via the iSleep/Whamb package, but haven't received a reg. # for Whamb yet. Further, it is not selectable in iSleep. I am a long-time user/supporter of the now retired Audion player. Other than Whamb's sonic improvements, it has a long way to go before catching up to the Audion legacy.

JOHN DOE  Whamb is actually the best way to listen to OGG files with Tiger since OGG vobis support in iTunes is broken under Tiger. See also the new cog 03.

FRANCISCO  Wow, this could be exactly what I was looking for. I can keep my music folders intact without "importing" (and subsequent unwanted reshuffling of my files) and make playlists very quickly.

Regarding the skins, most are a bit skimpy, unless you are a minimalist or like the interface always on top, though they have an interesting rounded feel. More skins are available via the author's homepage.

This runs nicely on an ibook 700mhz seems much peppier than iTunes.

Unfortunately I could not get any internet streams to play. Some just refused to start others cause the unexpected crash. Stability score is affected by this alone as it seems to work well aside from this feature.

ANONYMOUS  I was loking for some lower cpu usage player that WORKS without "this is beta.." excuses. work fine skins are cool too, iTunes is overall the best app. but when I need to listen music while PS and Flash are open saves me cpu.
