DESCRIPTION
AbleFtp is designed with automation in mind, so you do not have to spend time interactively transferring files. Features include:
- Simple User Interface helps you transfer files interactively, but the Goal is to get you to create advanced ftp tasks that can be scheduled automatically or run manually.
- Automate FTP to/from an intranet or internet server. Schedule ftp of files between your PC and the server and automatically rename the files based on current month, day or time if needed. Ftp supports wildcards (*). Transfer multiple files at once. Supports subdirectory transfers.
- Scheduler software is very easy to use, yet has very powerful scheduling, tasking and automation capabilities.
- Email Notification of task failure based on task exit code.
- Remote FTP directory monitor can detect directory change and trigger ftp , zip, copy, delete tasks. Can also detect file size, total files, file modification dates and trigger other tasks if required.
- Local directory monitor works similar to the Remote Ftp directory monitor.
- Zip files and directories using wildcards on schedule. Can append date/time to filename for archive purposes.
- Copy files and directories using wildcards on schedule. Can append date/time to filename for archive purposes.
- Delete files on schedule based on wildcards.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 8.30:
- SFTP-J task bugfix - Ascii/binary, remote EOL, and file permission fields ignored user interface settings and resetted to defaults during task run.
- SFTP-J, FTP-J task - Get mode, delete source after transfer Option, now deletes using filename rather than full pathname.

MILESLONG the thing I like best about ableftp is the fact that it is impossible for me to even install it which in turn saves me a lot of time that I would have wasted evaluating it...

CASTLE ROSE I much prefer Captain FTP. It's better designed, is rock solid, has more useful features and it's cheaper.

DAVID BOTTON The price tag for a single license is $69, that is fairly steep over excellent fully native apps like Yummy or Fetch.

COOLFACTOR The developer hasn't bothered to build a native Mac OS X application. It may run on the platform, and appears like a Mac application, but the application has many shortfalls that will only hurt its adoption. - menubar on the window rather than at the top of the screen - multiple toolbars, none of which are the standard type - blank window of first run - spacing of window elements is awkward and ugly One interesting observation is that the download is only 6MB for the Mac, but 22MB or over for Windows or Linux. I also have to commend the developer on the integrated Feedback window. If this application is going to garner any loyalty, they'll rewrite it as a Cocoa application, or at least fix some of the shortfalls. The app has potential.

KRYSTOF VASA I'm not the developer, but I'm gonna say this: All the stuff that you mentioned can't really be done anything with. Unfortunately. I haven't downloaded it, but I bet it is some ugly kind of Java and that is I think already enough to say. Java is a nice idea of crossplatform development, which works, but sucks - it's painfully slow, (at least on OS X) doesn't look right (the windows aren't composite) and the controls' behavior is usually not as we're used to. This is the huge disadvantage of this app. However, there is an advantage: it's available for 3 platforms at the same time. That's why the dev is never going to rewrite it in Cocoa. First off - he might not even own a Mac! He would have to learn a new language and that would commit him to one platform. If he's going after profit, the most profitable platform would be (I guess) Windows... Unfortunately. So we have to deal with what we have here and not wine about what we don't have... There are many cool native (written in Cocoa) FTP clients for OS X which you may use instead.

COOLFACTOR No whining intended. Just observations. If the developer is serious about delivering a Mac application, then deliver one. Don't deliver a half-heart hack-job just to support multiple platforms. That's no way to garner a loyal user base. As an development myself, interface design is critical, and AbleFTP falls down badly on that aspect regardless of the programming environment used.

STAR-AFFINITY I went to the home page to check out some screen shots. Instead of seeing Mac OS X screen shots all I got was horrible Windows screens. They hurt my eyes... I guess I have to download it and try. If I dare... :)
