DESCRIPTION
Power Fractal is a numerically-intensive parallel graphics application that computes a Mandelbrot-like fractal and displays processor performance statistics. This app uses the AltiVec, SSE, and multiple processors (MP) for its computations and uses UCLA AppleSeed's MacMPI library for communication between parallel processors. To run it on a Mac cluster, use Pooch. This code will also compute correctly on single processor machines and non-G4's.

    ANONYMOUS  A great app to explore the beauty behind the Mandelbrot set. It really kicks on the PowerMac 2 x 2.5 GHz ... nearly 16,000 Mflops!

    Feature requests:

    - Zoom via rectangle selection.

    - Pan the view by (say) holding down a key and dragging the mouse ala Photoshop.

    JOSEF NAGY  Yawn. Another macintosh fractal software. What shall I do with it? What makes it more special than all the others? Why can´t mac fractal programmers go together and create something that could match PC software Fractint?

    This is meant to be something of a "benchmark" application, it measures how fast your Mac renders the fractal set.

    You stupid jerk, you did not even KNOW what the app does, and you criticize it.

    ANONYMOUS  My G4 shutdown when I tried to open Altivec Fractal. Guess my machine is no good.

    ANONYMOUS  I wanted to check whether the altivec enabler was functioning for the G4 upgrade in my Powermac.

    The mac (system profile etc) doesn't give accurate information on the upgrade, so it's hard to know what's actually going on.

    Your program was concise, easy to use and answered the question.

    ADAM JAY  i tested both my g4 867 powerbook and my g4 400 powerbook. results were consistent after multiple tests with and without altivec, and showed that on each computer altivec provided 4 times better performance when activated. this is good to know. good program, reliable.
