DESCRIPTION

Break through email attachment size restrictions and easily send large files via StuffIt Connect, MobileMe, or FTP. StuffIt SmartSend enhances StuffIt's Compress and Mail feature to automatically route large attachments through your designated file host.

StuffIt Deluxe enables you to work with a wide variety of compressed and encoded file formats. StuffIt can expand over 30 formats including RAR, 7zip, split and segmented archives. With StuffIt Deluxe, you can also browse archives, preview images and selectively extract just the files you want. StuffIt can even browse encoded archives and compressed tar files. You can extract individual files from tarballs in one step, no need to decompress it first.

Are you getting "Operation Not Permitted" errors when you try to open a Zip archive? Use StuffIt instead. StuffIt can open those password protected Zip archives. Need to send files securely? StuffIt can create encrypted Zip archives, too.

Do you want to send a Zip archive to a Windows user? Use StuffIt to Zip archives that don't include extraneous Mac data.

With the StuffIt Quick Look plugin, you can preview the contents of an archive right in the Finder. Preview compressed attachments right in Apple Mail without saving and expanding them first. You can even preview archives backed up with TimeMachine. No need to launch anything just to see what's inside.

With the StuffIt plugins for iPhoto and Aperture, you can take advantage of StuffIt's patented JPEG compression: Archive your photos and burn them to CD/DVD or compress and upload them easily right from within iPhoto and Aperture. Compress your JPEGs up to 30% with no loss in image quality.

Upgrade from ANY previous version for $29.99!

Other features:

  • Create disk images in one step with MagicMenu or the StuffIt Contextual Menu.
  • Use DropStuff to create multiple Preference settings and save them as Droplets. Create your own Droplets to meet your needs: Make encrypted Zip and upload to FTP server. Make StuffIt X archive and burn to DVD. The customization possibilities are nearly endless. With StuffIt 2010, you can access your Droplets easily via MagicMenu or the StuffIt Contextual Menu.
  • Schedule backups with StuffIt Scheduler. Automatically backup archives to CD/DVD, or upload them to FTP, or your MobileMe iDisk
  • Automate StuffIt with Automator Actions, AppleScript, and command line tools
  • With the StuffIt Plugin for Google's MacFUSE, you can mount archives in the Finder and browse the contents as virtual disks.

  • Innovative technologies such as our patented data recompression and duplicate detection.

WHITEROCK  What a joke. These clowns won't even wait until January for their laughable annual tax. There is no reason to upgrade. bye bye StuffIt.

MACINTOSH SAUCE  This is absolutely ridiculous! I am being asked for $29.99 to upgrade for a bloody bug fix from version (and get this) 12.0.2. Figure that one out... This software is being removed from my Mac Pro with AppZapper soon.

ESPIRIDION  I purchased my last version of Stuffit Deluxe many years ago. The upgrade fees were not worth it to me, and I ended up using the Finder (or PathFinder) as well as RAR Expander, The Unarchiver, and more recently Springy which became my main application for expanding and compressing files.

Since I found a very attractive offer I decided to purchase Stuffit Deluxe 2009. Here are some observations:

1. At the regular price I would not have purchased the software. Even at $30 which is the upgrade fee it was not worth it to me.

2. For some purposes, the free alternatives are sufficient. For example, in terms of size and time I found no significant advantage using Stuffit when compressing or expanding ZIP files.

3. SITX files were smaller. That's a plus.

4. Browsing through archives and previewing files is a time saver. Springy has similar functionality, but I liked Stuffit better.

5. Expanding multiple archives at once is DANGEROUS. I expanded 4 archives, each one with 4 parts. Once the expansion was over, three of the archives were Zero K in size. Only the first one was expanded correctly. Expanded the archives individually worked fine.

6. The progress bar is deceiving. While expanding a multi-part archive the progress goes to full when the first part is expanded, even though expansion of the whole archive is not complete.

7. It did not work with some segmented files I received, with extensions .001, .002, etc., although these files are supported according to the manual.

Overall I'm pleased with Stuffit Deluxe. It supports multiple formats and has some useful features. It does have some shortcomings, including the price.

For an application that has been around for so many years, I was surprised by some of its behavior and errors. Hopefully these issues will be fixed and provided as a free update.

SHOCK J  Wow...this blows my mind.

"You must provide Smith Micro with your credit card details to download the trial. If you do not cancel your trial within 30 days, you will be charged."

Users have been abandoning Stuffit in droves over the past few years. They continue to offer paid upgrades for trivial updates and now this? This is almost laughable. Talk about blowing you customer off and saying, "We don't really care about you, we just want your money!" These guys are on their way out of business...on the express route!

MACINTOSH SAUCE  Watch it... They, like Roxio with Toast 10, have reached their update limit. Soon it will be bumped to StuffIt Deluxe 14.0 and you will have to pay an upgrade fee. :-/

WHITEROCK  Just another tax. There hasn't been a significant improvement for several years/versions. Perhaps they've fixed a few bugs that should have been fixed for people who actually bought version 12. This is nothing but a money-grab of the uninformed. It's obsolete anyway.

MISHA  Am I really not seeing an upgrade price for version 12 users? In this day and age of built-in compression and cheap hard drives, it's hard to justify paying $80 every 12-18 months for marginal new features. Check out BetterZip (shareware) or BetterZip QuickLook Plug-in (free, let's you quicklook inside .zip files)... both are listed under "Other People Suggest" above.

HOLYPOLY  Misha, there *is* an upgrade option for ver. 12 users for $29.99. Whether that sounds reasonable or not, is a different question.
