SEņOR EPIPHYTE  Been using this since first gen SLIMP3 player on a Green iMac G3. The server, plus some plugins, and the Java Softsqueeze combine to make a very useful whole house sync or independent music distribution system.

Current version 6.5 is very good on my G5 1.8. Infrequently loses sync with wireless remote head units or Macs when heavy action on the server Mac. Very reliable distribution of asynchronous music to head units.

Can't beat the price. [ Anxiously awaiting impact of recent acquisition of SLIMs parent company.]  (Version 6.5)

JW  This is a great idea, an open-source controller for their hardware box. There are tons of features, lots of room for customization, and the menus are well-organized. The ability to play internet radio in my living room makes it worthwhile in itself.

However, the software is too buggy. I get frequent pauses in the music, and occasionally the box loses the connection with the server entirely. Sometimes the server also shuts down for no apparent reason, and without logging anything. If they can work out the bugs, this will be a really nice server. Until then, it's kind of frustrating.  (Version 6.0.2)

ANONYMOUS  This is actually a decent thing. It works pretty well - not great - a little touchy, and counter intuitive at times - feels a bit like a Windoze app that's been ported over to the light side of the force - but it does what it should, and it's handy and simple enough to be useful. Not to finicky to set up, but does require some knowledge of your system and general computer-ness to be of any help. It's not going to work out the stuff for you.  (Version 6.0.2)
