DESCRIPTION
definingDesign, a developer of high-quality Mac OS X software, is announcing the release of IconIt, a new version of the popular icon tool built specifically for OS X 10.2 Jaguar. The original version of IconIt (1.0) is still available for OS X 10.1 users. (See 'Related Links', below) If you like to have a lot of cool icons on your files and folders, IconIt will save you hours of copying and pasting icons from one file to another.

It works like this:

  • 1. Select the file whose icon you want to change.
  • 2. Pull down the icon menu (which is always available in the main menu bar).
  • 3. Select the icon you want from a neatly arranged list of icons.
  • 4. That's it! The icon you selected is applied to your file (or files, if you selected more than one).

IconIt takes the hassle out of assigning new icons to files and folders in Mac OS X. IconIt puts a convenient menu of all your icons in the toolbar of the Finder. Just select the file or folder you want to change, choose your new icon from the menu, and you're done! Joe Lester, the lead developer of IconIt, says that people who love icons will love IconIt. "I really haven't been able to find anything else like it, especially for OS X. Once you experience how easy it is to apply icons to your system this way, you won't want to go back to the 'old days' of opening up Info windows and all that tedious copying and pasting. IconIt makes it simple." I would love to hear your feedback.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.5 adds the following:
  • Automatic Icon Compositing over folders makes creating custom folder icons a breeze. No messing around with complex layout tools. Just select a folder in the Finder, choose an icon from IconIt 1.5, and the two are combined into a professional-looking folder icon, complete with drop shadow!
  • New "Add Selected Icon(s)" menu item. You can now add the icon(s) from your Finder selection to your IconIt menu without having to rebuild!
  • The IconIt menu archive is now saved at "~/Library/Application Support/IconIt/IconIt Menus" instead of the application bundle. This will prevent future upgrades from automatically triggering a menu reload.
  • A bug that caused problems while in the Finder's Column View has been fixed.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.2 or later.

COWICIDE  I used to love using this for quickly badging folder with small icons, but I haven't been able to get it to work with 10.5 and I doubt because of that it works with 10.6 either.

I really miss this... :( Also the website is gone too for the dev... :( !!!!

I loved how you could just select a folder on your desktop and apply an icon badge to it easily from the iconit app in the menubar. Is there an alternative to this that works with 10.5 at least?

COWICIDE  it's not perfect, but i guess the best replacement I can find that works in 10.5 is an app called Folder Icon Maker - it's better than IconIt was in some ways and worse in others, but at least it works in 10.5 and I assume it might work in 10.6

    Goodbye IconIt "X"
