CORPSECORPS  If you've tried to join AVI's with ffmpegX and gotten messed up headers, D-Vision will do the job properly. 8^)

BIZZYB0T  I loved this program. It gave such excellent Xvid results. Better quality and filesize ratios of anything I've ripped DVD's with on PC or Mac, even if it was slower. But sometime in the past 10.5.x Leopard micro-update, it stopped working. When you load a source up, you can go through all the motions, make settings, crop, etc, but when you go to add the task to the queue it "loses" the source and doesn't add the task. Also, you can't add any tasks to the list regardless of what you're doing. I'm very sad that this program was broken by an update and the developer seems to have all but abandoned it. The forums haven't seen any real activity in months. :(

Using Intel Mac with OS X "Leopard" 10.5.5

If anyone knows any way to fix D-Vision 3.2.2 so it works again, please reply to this review thread!

BIZZYB0T  Well, I figured it out. You need to completely uninstall D-Vision 3 through the "File --> Uninstall" menu item from within D-Vision 3 and then reinstall it and the files it needs and it'll work again.

I took too long and was unable to edit my comment above.

Hope this tip helps someone else!!

D-Vision is still the best Mencoder/Xvid encoder out there! It's slower than some others like HandBrake or VisualHub but the quality is outstanding!! It does it better with a smaller filesize, amazingly. Also, the encodes work with my PS3.

PEDRO FIGUEIREDO  I love this app, it's full of tools and the compresion quality is excellent. Unfortunantly this app keeps crashing all the time retriving:

Process: tcprobe [410]

Path: /Applications/D-Vision 3.app/Contents/Resources/tcprobe

Identifier: tcprobe

Version: ??? (???)

Code Type: PPC (Translated)

Parent Process: D-Vision 3 [404]

BIGCAT  Great product. I'm just missing the split into chapter function. Since I'm "grabbing" episodes collections for my daughter I've to manually reload the DBD and creaqte a new task for each episode.

ALEXR  I love this program because it is so easy to use. At first it went straight to 0.10% but now its not doing anythin but making funny noises. How long does it usually take for a 1hour 30min movie?

SLVTNPLT  It takes me around 1.5 hours to encode a movie that length.

FEDESARTORIO  D-Vision is my favorite movie converter out there. I almost exclusively encode in H264 nowadays; d-vision is a tad slower than Handbrake on this front, but the quality is much better. I encoded the same movie at the same bitrate with the two programs just to test them and the overall quality in D-Vision is noticeably better. Especially in the gradients which are a lot smoother at the default settings.

Everything else also works great in D-Vision: effective and straightfoward.

The only thing missing in my opinion is a small integrated tool to join/split H264 movies, that would be great.

IRONMAN  It is the only program that can encode DVD-RAM discs with several chapters and undefined audio track. Toast or Popcorn will crash if you try to do this. This is a new feature in 3.2.2 because 3.0.2 was crashing exactly like Toast or Popcorn. So 5 stars again for this update, which solved a problem I had.

YORKSHIRE_KEITH  I'm suprised by the comments of people who aren't happy with this app. It installed instantly on my G4 and has run faultlessly ever since. A bit slow converting to H264 but when I get my Intel machine I hope that's going to change. It's the only app I've got that can join large Avi files and them still work on both the mac and my set top player.

IRONMAN  I have been using this software for a long time now on PPC, and it had always been great.

Just tested out on Intel Mac, and the encoding performance is hard to believe.

1 Gb of VOB files (personnal movie into a TS folder), high-quality video and audio converted to Avi/DivX. Guess what ? It takes less than 3 minutes to encode (Intel iMac Dual Core). Resulting file is exactly as I expected.

Very impressive speed.

Highly recommended. A must-have freeware, like VLC. And the DivX tools work great (cutting tool is very useful)

thanks a bunch for this !! (great freeware.. thx)
