PROGRAMHAPPY  Developer, can you please add the option to sort all messages in the inbox by EMAIL ADDRESS, not just by "sender"? I run a business, and deal with hundreds of different customers every day. I need to sort by email address! Can you please add an optional "Email" column? You'll be my hero! I'm sure that countless other people would also appreciate this sorting option. Thank you!

FRANKNS  Is GyazMail still alive?

Curious if development is still happening, if the developer is still maintaining the product.

FRANKNS  I did get a response from the developer. He said that he is still actively working on Gyaz, but because he is very busy, another release "might take some time."

DRDUL  This is a nice email client that resembles Apple Mail in many ways (and I mean that as a compliment). Except for one glaring omission. As far as I can tell (unless I've somehow overlooked a hidden setting), there's no support for composing HTML emails. I want to switch my wife over to GyazMail from Thunderbird, and although she likes everything else about it, the lack of HTML support in composing messages is a deal-breaker for her. I'm hoping the developer adds this feature soon, so I can drag Thunderbird to the trash.

DRDUL  The developer is still actively developing GyazMail. I emailed him yesterday asking about support for Snow Leopard, and he responded that he's testing GyazMail on 10.6, and mentioned a new version. I then asked him if the new version will include HTML message composition, but haven't received a response yet. I will add another reply when I do.

I tried Postbox and hated it. It looks good on the surface, but from what I can tell, it's some variation of Thunderbird underneath. It has all the same clunky pref settings and annoying stand-alone address book that Thunderbird has, and it performed even worse (despite importing all settings from Thunderbird). I much prefer the look, simplicity and function of GyazMail (as does my wife, who would be the one using it). It's only the lack of HTML message composition holding her back.

DRDUL  I just heard back from the developer. He says that HTML message composition will be added in the next major release (version 2.0).

MAVI GöZ  I prefer this mail client over all the clients I used so far (Thunderbird, Mulberry, GNUmail.app, Apple Mail, Correo and PostBox) for several reasons:

* It is native Cocoa (thus relatively fast and behaves like it should).

* In contrast to Apple Mail my IMAP folders of my various mail accounts are displayed as they are – no grouping of inboxes and trash cans of different accounts and no crazy smart folders.

* My main account has the ability to filter / sort mails directly on the server side so it is nice that GyazMail checks ALL the folders and marks any single folder that contains new messages.

* It can automatically break lines after a user defined number of characters when sending a message (my university requires line breaks after 72 characters and text only messages – ways better than HTML from my point of view).

In general GyazMail is very lightweight in compare to other clients and easy to use (not too many icons and colorful blinking elements) but still provides many useful options. Alll in all well balanced.

What I am still looking for is a more efficient and faster implemetation of IMAP handling.

FRANKNS  While encryption would be great ...

I'd like to see Smart Folders and/or Spotlight integration.

Mail is simply unreliable. Gyaz just works. But searching for a message is so much easier in Mail that I find myself using both.

NICKSLOAN  Actually, the superior searching in GyazMail was one of several reasons that I switched from Mail (on Tiger). It seemed to me a lot more predictable and comprehensive than in Mail --at least when searching emails exclusively. I miss the global integration of Mail, but whenever I consider switching back the solidity and customisability of Gyaz stop me in my tracks.

FRANKNS  Yes ...

After three months of Mail, I tend to agree. Its IMAP is extremely slow and will -- on occasion -- lose messages. I cannot afford that.

I've set up Gyaz again, using a separate window for searches, and searching "raw source" so that I can go through all my HTML mail.

Probably going back to Gyaz.

RHSTODDARD08  I second the request for support for encryption. I understand it's planned for a future release, but hope it comes sooner than later. This is - to me - the only weakness in the program.

I switched from Mail because of constant crashes, and so far GyazMail has been rock solid. I'll stick with it, but miss the ability to sign/encrypt.

RICHARD TAYTOR  GyazMail is good but it still lacks support for encrypted mail. "Smart Folders" or saved search queries would also be welcome.

TUISHIMI  My wife and I have been using GyazMail for years now. My wife has been using it consistently, I waffle back and forth between Mail and GyazMail. I thought with Leopard I would stick with the new and improved Mail.app, but ... it inexplicably loses message texts! Not often, but every once in a while I get new mail, click on it and the body of the message is missing. (Not because it is an image or group of images - seems random).

Despite all the cool features Mail has now, I find my self once again using GyazMail because, as everyone else here has said, "it just works."

THEBRIX  A great example of "no fuss, it just works" software.

Very fast - much faster than Mail.app on Leopard - no problems with IMAP (perfect synchronisation, and one of the few clients I have ever used which has not added its own folders, unasked, to the server tree), complete control over what message content downloaded (omit embedded images and/or remote images and/or HTML, and the omissions always work) and the feature set is just right; no glitz and no unimportant options presented up front, unlike Mailsmith or Thunderbird.

As others note, $18 is a bargain!

HELIOS9  Having used GyazMail for quite a while now, I've found it to be a pleasure to use...totally stable, rock solid and dependable.

It's got a lovely UI and a fine set of well thought out features.

About the only features that I'd like to see included are: ability to import one's own sound files for new mail notification, and ability to bounce unwanted email back to sender.

GyazMail is well worth its $18.
