SharePoints is an application or a preference pane that makes it easy to add and delete share points like in the old Finder. In Mac OS X, by default, you are limited to sharing only what is in your public folder in your home directory. This program makes it easy to share any folder. In addition SharePoints also brings back users and groups management to Mac OS X as well as easy configuration of AppleFileServer (AFS) and Samba (SMB) Server properties.
PEANUT BUTTER I have used SharePoints before with success, but running into problem on 3.5.4 and Tiger 10.4.7. I cannot get the local computer to be considered part of the specified group. In the app it shows up correctly.
When I create a folder remotely, I am locked out locally, even though the local user is part of the group "staff".
The only way to get access for the local user is to all 'everyone' r/w privis, but that's not a solution. (Version 3.5.4)
AQUILLES10 I just installed Sharepoints on an older G4 400mhz Powermac running Mac OS 10.3.9 and couldn't be more happy. The program is relatively easy to set-up, and very stable. If all you need from your server is simple file sharing, then Sharepoints pretty much is all you need and makes OS X server software overkill. And to top it all of, you cannot beat the price! (Version 3.5.4)
MICHAEL HORN It looks like I turned on one to many optimzation flags in the compiler. As a result, SharePoints 3.5.2 is crashing on launch on G3s (at least that is what have been able to gather so far). If you are having trouble with version 3.5.2 crashing please email me at hornware@hornware.com with your machine type and the crash reporter log. (Version 3.5.2)
