DESCRIPTION
MathPad is a general purpose graphing scientific calculator. It uses a text worksheet rather than simulating buttons on a hand held calculator. This live scratchpad interface allows you to see and edit your entire calculation.

In addition to being a handy little calculator, MathPad can also take on larger problems. Simple plotting allows quick visualization of results. General purpose arrays allow calculations involving vectors, complex numbers, matrix algebra etc. 2D arrays can be displayed as grayscale or color images. Several examples are included showing such things as equation solving, curve fitting, vector calculations and numerical solution of differential equations.

Plug-in modules provide specialized capabilities in areas such as engineering, finance, statistics, linear algebra, data analysis, sound and image processing.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.6.5:
  • Graphics can be pasted into the text window
  • An updating date label can be added to the plot
  • Improved handling of very large arrays
  • Improved table formatting
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS 8.6 or later with CarbonLib, or Mac OS X

DES COURTNEY  So ugly, it's beautiful. I've been using MathPad since the time it was a "exclusive" item for the old DiskWorld software magazine. While the UI hasn't aged gracefully, this "poor man's Mathematica" really is a versitile and useful math analysis tool. I used it heavily for my math heavy CS courses in grad school, doing things like parameterized functions and matrix math. I still use it to this day for occasional "what if" graphing anaylsis, since Apple's old Graphing Calculator was crippled in comparision.

BRUCE  This sounds like a great program, but when I downloaded it (twice) and tried to run it using OS10.3.5 all that happened was that MS word started up. Evidently the program thinks it is a MS Word document. But there is no evidence, in MS Word, of any of the calculator effects. I hope others have better luck.

MU ADMIN  the problem is most definitely at your end, I just downloaded the app and launched it, under OS X 10.3.5, and it popped right up ready to go

ANONYMOUS  This is a great little program. It is very easy to use, and straightforward. The built in help is also excellent! I recommend using this application for anything from simple calculations to complex graphs!

PETER WATSON  Mathpad is just amazingly good. It replaces any calculator for doing scratchpad type calculations: since the calculation is stored, you can go back and make corrections. YOu can use it as a teacher, to step students through a complex calculation.

But then it's extensible, and acts as the poor-man's Mathcad; it handles arrays, graphs, special functions and so on. It (obviously) doesn't run at the speed of a compiled program. but for checking results it is outstanding.

And the price is right!
