ROBK I installed RealPlayer so I could use Radiotastic on Snow Leopard. RealPlyer 12 works quite well but it still has some bugs. It will play flash videos for awhile. Then an hour later it will not. Apparently, Adobe's Flash Player 10 is incompatible with RealPlayer on the Mac. (see Real's knowledge base). Real's solution go back to Flash 9 (with all its security holes). REAL FIX -- Use QT7 and Perian to play flash videos N.B Note -- If you are concerned about Privacy, you should disable Real cookies. See Preferences. REALPLAYER DOWNLOAD AGENT Real will bug you IN EACH USER ACCOUNT, whether you want to enable the download agent at logon. My recommendation is NO!! You can still run the Download Agent manually. (Look for small icon on RealPlayer Interface). Download Agent does download the flash videos from most web sites like YouTube. It also lets you easily convert the FLV files to a format like H264 for most portable devices like iPods and BlackBerrys. The Real Converter will easily convert FLV files to many formats like H264. It will also add the files to iTunes. Very easy to use and works well. If you launch RealPlayer AFTER you have launched a wen browser, you will get a message: "To Complete configuration, RealPlayer needs to quit your open web browsers" This is misleading. It is trying to become the default media player ONLY for this session of the browser. Say LATER. All will be well. But I wish I could get rid of this message. The Second Annoyance is RealPlayer's lack o0f support for AAC+ audio files and streams. Many Radio stations use AAC+ now. Come on REAL add this codec!! (Version 12.0.0) |
