DESCRIPTION
Spamfire is an email filtering program that removes spam from your in-box. Works with any POP3 account and any email software.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.30:

New Features:

  • Added new "Bayesian Tools" item to the Window menu. This brings up a window where you can reset or prune your Bayesian corpus. Pruning lets you remove unnecessary tokens from your Bayesian filter database. Occasional pruning can improve accuracy and speed.
  • Only shows error windows for mail checks that were initiated by the user. If an error occurs in a mail check initiated by schedule or by email proxy, the error is logged but not shown in an error window.
  • Resurrected the much-loved "Last mail check" status report, now shown, along with some other info, under the tool bar buttons. If there was an error on a recent mail check, that is noted here too.
Fixes and Improvements:
  • Fixed a problem that could cause database collisions, which could cause Spamfire to fail to save a UID record, which could cause duplicate message downloading.
  • Fixed the importing of IMAP accounts, which wasn't working properly.
  • Filter subscription validation fails more promptly and without hanging the program when you don't have an internet connection.
  • Removed the "Show Significant Tokens" feature from the Preferences window because it is not working properly. We hope to bring this back in a future version.
  • Protected some areas of the mail fetching code that were not thread-safe. This fixes a problem that could cause Spamfire not to re-enable the auto-filter schedule and other schedules after logging off from multiple email accounts. May also fix some problems with keeping track of UID records, which might help with the "duplicate mail" problem that is persisting for some users. We also expect this will fix some database collisions that were leading to spinning beachballs.
  • Made the keychain access more reliable.
  • Fixed bug that caused marking a message as good to set the on-server flag when that was not appropriate.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Spamfire to resend good messages from helper accounts when marking them as good.
  • Fixed problem that caused Spamfire to think you always had proxy accounts, and therefore always added Spamfire Agent to your startup items.
  • Fixed problem with unnecessary timeouts when downloading large messages.

JAN13  I have this application since ... and it always was a problem. I think, that this developer was mere less talented as con then anything else .... I did have my nerve prime with them a long time ago just like many other users ...

Finally they did close a door but in very unprofessional way.

MEDORAS  Can someone confirm if Matterform Media is still in business?

No technical support. No filter updates for paid subscriptions. No response to emails to Michael Herrick asking for a status update (which we have been waiting on for over 8 months.)

Their site is still alive however, If they have closed their doors they should let their customers know and we can look for alternatives.

It's highly unprofessional to leave us all in limbo.

APPEARANCE TECH  Well, here it is now June 16 and MATTERFORM MEDIA is still CLOSED after about a total of four months.

MATTERFORM MEDIA has vanished, no support, nothing. Michael Herrick seems to have skipped town without providing his customers any service or recourse.

The paid filter subscription is still not working and Michael Herrick still has not provided any refunds. Instead, Herrick has decided to keep our money and not provided the paid service.

Michael Herrick and Matterform Media, GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK! Surly, you are not a low down, common thief that takes people's money without providing the paid service are you? Four months is long enough to wait.

APPEARANCE TECH  MATTERFORM MEDIA OUT OF BUSINESS/CLOSED FOR GOOD?

Well, as of May 17, 2007, Matterform Media still has not reopened.

Their website states:

Tech Support is CLOSED

Tech Support is currently closed because of personal matters requiring attention. We apologize for the inconvenience. Tech support will be available again April 16.

Their tech support has been closed for a total of over two months now with no recourse whatsoever for their customers.

The paid filter subscription server has been down for over three months, approaching four months. Michael Herrick has not offered any type of compensation for his customers but instead has only kept our money without providing the paid service. I have been forced to file a complaint with my credit card company for a refund.

DO NOT SPEND A DIME WITH THIS COMPANY!

APPEARANCE TECH  No SSL, Paid Filters Down Three Months, Support Closed For Months.

What has happened to Spamfire? Look at all of the others leaving this software program. Count this long time user as leaving too.

I have used this program since v1. I give up. Nothing works right.

There is no SSL support. It plain does not work with either POP or IMAP SSL.

The paid filter subscription service has been down for nearly three months. We paid for this service but this company has let us down. There has been no offers of refunds or extensions of service.

Support has been down for over a month now and never returns when stated. If you have a problem, you are on your own. I can understand health and personal issues but there has been no support for ages now. They need to provide alternatives. There is nowhere else to turn ...no support forums, groups...nothing.

Good bye Spamfire. I hate to lose my $30 but your lousy support, lack of response on addressing your paid filter subscription outage and basically ripping us off for three months, and failure to fix your SSL support after many attempts has chased this once loyal supporter for good.

JAKO  Incredible slow if there are Mails containing bigger (> 1MB) attachments. Mailed Matterform two times, still no solution.

BEN_MARKO  Much improved over earlier versions, previously, Enourage would crash (?) when Spamfire was active. The best filter out there, it catches about 80% of spam for me.

EASYEDE  The negative comments regarding version 2.0 are correct - I was almost to the point of finding another spam filter myself. Then version 2.2 came along and it is back to being a robust effective spam filter. You owe to yourself to try 2.2 if you were previously turned off by the bugs in 2.0.

PERPLEXITY  I'm using this since version 1. There have been some problems with corrupt mail databases and lost emails in the past, but ever since version 2 it works like a dream. I use it in combination with Powermail and for me, Spamfire works better than SpamSieve.

BEN_MARKO  It would help if you offered up an explanation of what happened, and not just a rant. Then the developer could possibly offer up a solution.
