DESCRIPTION
Cuppa is a cute application to time your cup of tea as it steeps. Tired of leaving your tea too long, to become bitter and cold, or drinking it too soon and not appreciating its full potential? Then this utility is for you!

Use it right from the dock: just right-click or command-click on the little teacup, and select the beverage you wish to brew. You'll see a tea bag appear in the cup, and gradually darken as the tea steeps. When the tea is done the teacup will bounce and make a sound.

Features:

  • All functionality available from the Dock menu.
  • Customize the beverage list and steeping times.
  • Customize the brew complete notification.
  • Also great for timing French press coffee and 2-minute noodles!
  • Full Cocoa source code available.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.6.4:
  • upgraded Growl framework to 1.2
  • UI improvements: simplified quit warning message when timer active
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.1 or later.

AETNARIA  Cuppa still works on Snow Leopard (that is, it will quietly count down, beep as the timer approaches zero and pop up a dialog that brewing is done). But...

1) It now takes a ctrl-click to gain quick access to the timers. Holding down the cursor over the dock icon only pops up the new generic Quit/Hide/Options that all apps in the dock now have. Thanks a bunch for supplanting Cuppa's easy access, 10.6.

2) The dock timer no longer displays. It's just a bare image of a cup, regardless of whatever timer may or may not be set and counting down at that moment.

PINKSKITTLES  this is a great little app! i think you should make a loose leaf option as tea fanatics would most likely be into loose leaf than teabag. maybe one of those bodum teapots would be cool. i think i'll probably end up making an icon myself if i don't see it happen. great app though (but tea snobs who would've probably looked for this don't usually use bags).

JIMWG1  Nice app, but (not looking a gift horse in the mouth) but how accurate is it? Don't different teas and even tea bags have different optimum brewing/steeping times? I seem to recall there are tea sites deep into this. Any way to make future versions of Cuppa adjustable according to tea and brand? A fun project and thanks.

FROMAGE-HEAD  I think it also depends on people taste, once you got your perfect time record it in the prefs.

AETNARIA  Aye, the application is quite customizable. I don't use it for brewing tea at all, but for other things like 'pizza is done' and 'get the laundry'.

Just select "Preferences..." and delete/add things as desired. Or go the "Quick Timer..." route if you're only doing a quick once kind of thing.

APEMAN  Teabags? How quaint. Actually, it's trial an error. Cuppa only controls the time. It can't control the temp of the water, the chemicals in the water, your health that day.

Cuppa does one thing well for free.

CAMáN  A very nice and sweet app. Works like a charm.

The only thing is that I need to move my computer closer to the kitchen or estimate and add the time it will take me to run and switch the app on :-)

This might be why some fridges have a TLC screen in the door!

DMGLASGOW  AHA! Version 1.3 comes through with FLYING colors! Thanks for incorporating so many of the user requests in terms of notification!

One teeny enhancement request: is there a way for Cuppa to bring itself to the front of other apps when the timer ends? As it stands, the notification dialog pops up behind other windows if I'm working on something else.

But thank you thank you thank you for all the progress you've made! : )

MAXOUT  Nice app, but I must request a vital feature: "Tea Connoisseur Mode", in which the cup and the bag are replaced by a teapot and tea leaves, and phraseology changes accordingly.

The dock icon could show tea brewing inside a glass teapot and a small progress bar or countdown.

DMGLASGOW  Yeah, I'm in the "too easy to miss" camp, too. If the dock icon could display a countdown, and/or the cup could bounce continuously until I reset it, I'd be much less afraid of drinking tar.... ; )

Also, while I'm at it, it would be nice to be able to re-order the tea types in the prefs list. Sort 'em alphabetically, or just drag them to change the order--something like that. : )
