DESCRIPTION
VirtualDesktop Pro... Imagine if instead of having one monitor attached to your computer, you had 100 monitors attached to your computer. Then imagine that each of those monitors could display different windows and applications that you were running so that you could dedicate a monitor to different parts of how you will use your computer to accomplish your work. Then imagine that any time you want you could bring one of those monitors right in front of you so that you could easily access the different windows and applications on each monitor.

CodeTek VirtualDesktop provides you with the capability to switch between desktops on your monitor as though you had separate monitors. CodeTek Virtual Desktop provides a GUI interface that contains your desktops arranged in a grid. Each desktop on the pager is a unique environment where you can accomplish your work. Windows can be moved between desktops simply by dragging them between desktops on the pager.

The unregistered version of CodeTek VirtualDesktop limits you to only 2 fully functional desktops.

SHOCK J  PowerPC and Tiger? If you're going to come back from the dead and update your software, why waste your time with a version that only a fraction of the people can use? Do they think anyone other than already existing customers (who haven't upgraded to Leopard) is going to even bother with this? What a waste.

SJK  And most, if not all, of what's listed as new in 4.0b1 was already in the final 3.x version.

STEVE HODGSON  I may be forced to eat my words.

As far as I can see this version is PowerPC and Tiger only so I won't try it on my MacIntel yet.

STEVE HODGSON  I thought I would make this a review rather than a comment to start to move the rating down. Something that must be due now that this fine application appears to be abandoned.

CTVD was without doubt the finest virtual desktop application for OS X. The fact that it broke with each major update to the OS could have been forgiven had they been able to support the application and update accordingly. Now that it seems to be beyond recovery it looks like the end of the line.

Codetek (Bill?) are still promising a new version it would appear but this looks increasingly like a fantasy.

it's like a famous game quote:

"They set us up the bomb"...

Farewell Codetek & VirtualDesktop Pro...

Cheers,

FGS  Argh...

I just tried to write an email to "Dear Mr. Goldstein" (looks like he is the only Dude there working, because "support@codetek.com" is the same email address in the end as his...) and I almost loughed loud when I instantly after sending the mail got an error reply from his postmaster.... the email account is not anymore active! Great news!

For all of you waiting... like me... keep waiting as now I am almost certain that this product is dead (and 40 $ lost).

Also, people which are still using PPC, watch out with Adobe CS3 products cause the bindings are not working correctly with VirtueDesktop Pro 3.2.

Version 4 looks to be "Vaporware".

Really a sad story, such a great prodcut now depreciated.

PSYCHOS  I love CTVD; it's the best workspace manager I've used under any OS. Unfortunately, it does not run on my MacBook Pro. The web page still says a fix is coming soon. Emails a couple months ago and a few days ago have gone unanswered.

Does this company still exist? Is CTVD ever going to be updated? I'd sure like to use this product that I paid for until Leopard is out with Spaces.

MRONSETH  In Codetek terms, 5 months is "soon".

I think I waited 18 months for version 3.2 (if memory serves me right, it was a looooooong wait)

SJK  Has anyone heard any news at all from CodeTek about an Intel-compatible version of VirtualDesktop? There's nothing about it mentioned on their web site. Maybe it's time to starting thinking about migrating to Virtue ...
