DESCRIPTION
GPGMail is a plug-in for Mail.app, providing a front-end to gpg for some operations. GPGMail extends Apple's Mail/MailViewer application and allows you to read and send PGP authenticated and/or encrypted messages. You can use GPGMail for plain and MIME messages, following RFC 3156.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.2v56:

  • Available for 10.5 Leopard only
  • Now under BSD license (more liberal than before)
  • Project now located on SourceForge.net
  • Better compatibility when decrypting messages from old mailers (e.g. handles encrypted attachments)
  • Added Swedish localization by Erik Hedlund
  • Added new keyserver to list (SKS)
  • For ASCII encrypted/signed messages, enforces use of quoted-printable - more robust - Thanks to Greg A. Woods
  • Fixed support for gpg2 (provided that you have a working agent - see FAQ)
  • Fixed problem with GPGOpenPGPExecutablePath (no longer necessary in most cases - see documentation)
  • Fixed bug when sending signed+encrypted (ASCII) message with untrusted recipient, and GPGMail set to trust no key: an exception was logged, instead of being displayed to user.
  • Fixed bug: was still signing when automatic signing but no matching account
  • Fixed bug with manual choice of encryption keys: message might be sent without encryption/signature
  • Fixed bug: draft additional headers were not removed when message was delivered
  • Fixed bug with manual choice of keys: choice was lost when displaying again key list
  • Fixed bug with AppleScript-generated messages, and redisplayed PGP buttons
  • Fixed dependency on /usr/local/bin/gpg
  • Fixed positioning of compose accessory view
  • Fixed bug with 'verbose' option in gpg.conf file
  • Fixed toggle triangle state (showing/hiding the extended signature info)
  • Fixed case where public key choice was still automatic even after user chose keys manually
  • Fixed initial automatic choice of key according to account
  • Fixed initial sign/encrypt settings, when they should be set by default
  • Fixed bug with disabled toolbar items on detached viewers
  • Fixed UI-compatibility problems with MailTags
  • Fixed bug with non-English locales
  • Fixed bug with 'Reply to All' button
  • No longer supports Tiger (10.4)
  • No longer supports Panther (10.3)

THEKIDFROMTHEREDBANK  SNOW LEOPARD WON'T BE SUPPORTED!

this is from the developer:

Dear Users,

Current version of GPGMail (1.2.0) is NOT compatible with coming Snow Leopard's Mail.

New Mail's internals changed a lot, like it did with all major revisions of Mac OS X, and as Apple doesn't give any documentation nor any support for such an unsupported plugin, developers have to work by trials and errors. Based on my experience of previous compatibility work, I can estimate that the workload to make GPGMail compatible with Snow Leopard is at least 40 hours, for me.

Unfortunately I no longer have spare time to do that work (I've always been working on GPGMail during my spare time, not during my work time).

Some people proposed their help, but at this time no one has been able to find enough time to actually do the work. For unexperienced people it will take much more time to do it.

In consequence, there will not be an update of GPGMail for Snow Leopard in the coming months, not even a beta version.

If serious people want to do the work, I will gladly try to help them as much as I can; just contact me.

I'm sorry to leave you without GPGMail on Snow Leopard; until someone does the port, you'll have to rely on Thunderbird and its Enigmail plugin.

DAINTY77  I like GPGMail a lot, really simple to use. I only use it for mailing my friend, its not supersecret stuff, just feels nice to have a bit of privacy. I use the 'passphrase' encryption, we decided on a word. I never bother with the signing or the public key thing. One thing I would like is if you could use the same phrase as key by default when mailing someone. Now I have to type in the phrase twice when sending. Maybe there is a way to set this up I just didn't find. I think it's very well integrated into Mail, my thanks to the developers.

MONKEYJUNKEY  Thanks for this very useful app! I have been using it for a while and this new version 1.2v56 really looks like a big step.

It's much easier to get it running with the delivered installer. And also this installer ensures that old versions are removed which gave me once a little confusion...

So, Thanks again and keep up the great work. It is appreciated.

FHALS  Incredible!

Seamless integrated.

Works like Apple Software once did, even it's still in beta.

Thanks for making this available!

DBOROD  After installing GPGMail 1.0.2 the applescript asks if you'd like to launch mail now. I said yes, and was very surprised that the Classic App called Mail (in Internet Utilities) launched instead rather than Mail.

SCOTT  Absolutely one of the finest, most useful utilities for OS X

amongst the caliber of such notables as Frank Vercuresse (ASM),

Marcel Bresink (Tinker Tool and NFS Manager), Sebastian Krausse

(Locator), and Brian Hill (Brickhouse, PuzzlePalace, Mac Janitor).

This application just fscking rocks, period.

NATHAN  Easy to install, set up, and use. Works flawlessly, so far. Very nice preferences interface, the auto-decryption is slick, and it seems as if it's a part of Mail, not a third-party bundle.

I like the drop-down interface above the header (similar to that used for junk messages) to show validity, signing date, and associated user ID's.

I absolutely love the additional header display on signed and encrypted messages.

If you don't already have GPG or PGP installed, it's not as easy of a task as installing most Mac software. If you're not already familiar with public-key encryption, it can be a hard thing to wrap your head around. If you're familiar with PK, though, and understand (and use) GPG or PGP, then this is an excellent add-on to Mail. Sorry for the long review, folks!

ANONYMOUS  It works, and works, and works, and I never had to set any settings again.

I can tell it, what to do, and it does, what it should.

If it used the Identity, which I choose to send the mail with, instead of a standard identity, and if I could tell it, to always sign in the message instead of attaching a signature (and to do the opposite), it would gett full five stars.

I use it (and its predecessors) for over a year now, and it never failed me!

Thank you, Sen.te!
