DESCRIPTION
Downfall is a 3D arcade puzzle game (similar to Bloxter and other falling-blocks games).
It features real-time 3D graphics and lots of different boards to play.
All boards have special blocks like indestructibles, dynamite sticks, snow shovels, wrecking balls etc.
Another cool feature is the import-export highscores, which lets you swap highscores with your friends.
When importing, Downfall merges the highscores together, keeping the best ones.
The game is easy to learn. You just drop stacks with colored blocks to form lines that will react and disappear, to score points.
Keep in mind that each board requires its own tactics and skills to master!

I've long ago gotten used to the wacky graphics and i've always liked the use of OpenGL, but i do have one gripe about this unnervingly addicting game. Many of the variants which seem like they could be quite interesting, are made less so because there are far too many non reactive blocks too early. Or in other variants, the objects which create difficulties (e.g. avalanches) are so common and devastating to overcome, whereas the objects for helping the problem (e.g. hammers for breaking ice) are so much less powerful. How challenging the game is can be regulated only with block falling speed. The inherent difficulty in some variants doesn't allow fully exploring them, and therefore i find myself ignoring a large number of them.

JONLINK If you are looking for plain old tetris clones—Quinn is free and beautiful. If you are looking for Tetris and Tetris variations, Tetris Zone, made by the actual Tetris people is $10. I don't think the price for this is reasonable at all. It is fun, but not $20 fun, not even tetris fun. (Version 2.6.6)

This is NOT a "plain old" anything. The 3D graphics (odd looking or not) and the large number of variations make this quite different. (Version 2.6.6)

JONLINK Actually I find it pretty plain, even with the variations, BUT that wasn't my point. The point of my comment was to point out: A) similar games that I like better, which are (conveniently) cheaper B) I don't really think this is very tetris like and, not even all that fun, certainly not innovative enough to captivate me. GAOSHAN If you like this be sure to try Quinn. Quinn has very Maclike graphics, is networkable and is free. (Version 2.6.6)

Quinn is also just plain Tetris, which this, with it's 3D graphics and gazillion variations, is not. Quinn's fine, if all you want to do is play Tetris the same ole way. (Version 2.6.6)

RCA411 I find this game to be fun and addictive, though I like puzzle and block games. The graphics are not terrible, they have a retro-feel, but how much can you do with a block game? The best part of this game is that each level has multiple concepts. I am considering registering the game to see what the 'locked' concepts are all about.

LAMEE I really like this game i love tetris and this is similar to it. Its simple to use and doesnt take long to download but i think the grafics could be improved and the colour of the game could be more bright. (Version 2.6.3)

BLOCKER I thought it was pretty fun game. Its simple and easy and it different from Tetris/PuyoPuyo(japannese game) it may get better if the graphic quality goes higher. Even if the graphic level is high, it wouldnt make any lag probably cause its such an simple game. (Version 2.6.3)

The game itself isn't too complicated, but the "graphics level" is already high. Using OpenGL to make the board, blocks, type, and everything else 3D makes it far more complex than other 2D implementations of Tetris and the like. (Version 2.6.6)

P I've looked at this game several times and I think the graphics are ugly. Doesn't anyone else?? What with Quartz rendering this could be MUCH more beautiful. This sole fact keeps me away from it. (Version 2.4.9)

NOT SO PICKY That was my issue way way way back. However, after playing it quite a lot, and also having some interaction with the creators and finding them to be very nice and responsive to problems, i decided it was obvious they had no intention of changing the peculiar style of graphics. Still a great game, overall. (Version 2.4.9)

SOLVED Perhaps one reason people compare it to Tetris is that the developer does so in the description. Doy-oy-oy-oy-oy (Version 2.4.6)

PUZZLED Yes, but they started doing it relatively recently, and it's a bad decision on their part as well. (Version 2.4.9)

PUZZLED I can't figure why people keep comparing this to Tetris games like Quinn. Tetris is Tetris, where this is infinitely more, with dozens of variations and OpenGL graphics. There isn't ANYTHING else like this out there. (Version 2.4.5)

AET This is more like Columns than Tetris. Except for the multitude of different rule sets to try, its difficulty, and its wiggliness. (Version 2.4.6)

ART NELSON This game is different enough from tetris that it stands by itself. It's one of those games that becomes addictive after you play it a dozen times. Easy to grasp, difficult to master. This is by far my favorite game on my Mac. I've also gotten my family addicted to it as well. Easily 5 stars. (Version 2.4.4)
