LEE123  Helloooo, Is anyone using this? No comment's for three, 3! years? It makes me wonder if I am missing out on some other more hip site for FCP users.

MMUECK  That's because most of us are probably using Final Cut Express, which has been abandoned (it seems).

Not surprising to me more FCP users aren't lurking around here.

Not sure what you mean. It's not hard finding FCP resources if that's what you're interested in.

JOHNNYMO999  An excellent program, really top notch. A bit of a learning curve, but you can do anything with it. It's paying my rent.

ANONYMOUS  Awesome editing program with (some) real time effects. Far better than Premiere and even AVID. A big drawback, stability is not so good, FCP crashes sometimes. Autosave can save your project...

MIKE  Ive been using FCP3 for 2 years, over 20 Full length movies & full feature DVD's (DVDSP 1.5) & its been ROCK SOLID! I have several nominations and One "BEST DVD OF THE YEAR" award - AVN Awards... so, I know what I'm doing & I have to be productive with tight deadlines... 'nuff said on that.

Heres the deal I found with FCP4/HD...

Upgraded to FCP4/HD on a second G4 *(Not primary machine) then attempted to "re-do" and entire project from capture to Final DVD using FCP4/HD to see if there would be any problems.

Well... first off, I cant capture anything at length in FCP4... all tapes capture perfect in 3, out of 18 tapes, I could capture ONE in its entirety, the rest would not go... after an entire day, I moved on. NEXT UP...No Rendering previews like FCP3... RT... real time? thats nice for 1-2 layers of video with basic transitions & FX, but try 6 video layers & 5 stereo audio tracks... there is NO real time anything... you must render... & there is NO DRAFT render, so you have to WAIT!!! even on a G5... a little faster, but why take away the draft render mode? thats just LAME! NEXT up... export as a Final Cut PRo Movie is gone, QT movie is not the same... what gives.. BIG problem for me as I do a "rough" edit first, then export Video & Audio seperate, Clean the audio up, then import back into FCP for "final" edit... major problem there. NEXT UP... cant view timeline on an external TV (Via Sony DV deck)... OK, so maybe I dont have it set up right, BUT, I can capture from the deck (sort of!)... FCP4 see's the deck, but no video... Tried all setting variations... no go. FCP3 shows video via firewire external all the time, no special set up required... another BIG problem. NEXT UP... track selection... cant figure out all the little "bullets"

to the far left that make "pairs" & stuff... is a track selected or not for copy or paste? FCP3 was very cleqar & simple.

So, why so many drastic functionality changes??? Why not just ADD the killer NEW features to a SOLID FCP3 base???? that would have been super cool! Now FCP4 is all F***ed up!

So,bottom line for me.

STAY WITH FCP3!!! Its not worth the hassle!!!

SOPHIE  I have had a progressively tougher time capturing video on Final Cut HD. My system is unable to locate the timecode on my deck. I don't have this problem at all on FCp 3.

LIBERATED  Those of you angry that you can't convert the songs you buy from the iTunes music store to mp3 to save disk space or use them in your home FinalCut movies should get Hear Your Music Anywhere 0.6. This free app converts the m4p songs that you buy to m4a format. With this app the digital hub lives on !!

DANTE  Very bad! I always heard never upgrade in the middle of projects so I waited until I was finished.

I upgraded and now when I export to quick time for DVD's I'm missing whole audio tracks. I'm pretty sure it's FCP HD because I had exported the project daily and burned dvd's as I was working on it just to see my progress.

I don't know why apple would release this upgrade with such a huge bug in it!

ANONYMOUS  I experienced a similar problem. I copied all my elements to a new sequence and did a mix down on the audio. I then wrote a final cut file on my desktop. This resolved the sound issue.

ANONYMOUS  Wish I NEVER upgraded to 4.5HD

I cannnot capture footage and I can't see the video in the capture preview window. If it starts to capture it quits because it is dropping frames or else the whole program just quits on me. Don't upgrade until the problems are fixed or you will end up like me with projects half finished!

DUDLEY SARGEANT  I have been running 4.5 HD on a G5 with 10.3 it has been relatively trouble free and has only lost the viewer / canvas a few times ( they appear 'greyed out' ) but it has sorted out my playback issues with green screen and external video . Has anybody tried it on a G4 with any sucess ? i am thinking of upgrading my other machine .

ANONYMOUS  I've had lots of trouble. It won't render --- every time I try to render it works for a minute and then I get the spinning beach ball until I force quit. Also, it won't hide, the mac (G4 dual 500) has trouble switching between it and other applications, and it's just generally slow and sluggish. My work has screeched to a halt.
