JOHNSMITH  Was a great app (I purchased it) but unfortunately it seems to have been discontinued.

NICK LO  I originally started using Accounts to learn double-entry accounting so I could better understand the instructions my accountant gave me. Once I'd mastered that, I enjoyed its simplicity so much I started using it for my then sole-trader accounts. Unfortunately, despite assurances to the contrary from its developer, it seems to have ground slowly to a halt and is left missing features that make prolonged use difficult (search for example). Forum posts about its status were left unanswered and now the forum has been put on hold. I was really keen for this application to be given some life but in the end gave up and upgraded my dormant copy of Moneyworks (http://www.cognito.co.nz).

XPLICIT  It's not possible to import account information, like from a csv file. That's ridiculous. For 35 bucks I expect a little more.

MACLOVER1.1  I can't stand accounting, but then again... who does ? I guess some do... anyway. I looked around for apps to do this... either they are too basic... or way too complex with billions of windows, or just plain ugly (I soooo hate ugly apps... that's why I love Mac isn't it ?!).Then one day I decided on this one. It lets me enter everything that I need (I'm a graphic designer) and produce client invoices as well. I had some questions, as of course accounting is not genetically programmed in creative people... support was extremely quick. Yep I found my accounting app and even found myself enjoying entering numbers for once LOL

OLIPOWER  I've been a registered user of Accounts for more than 4 years, and have to say it has saved my butt many times, accounting-wise. The daily bookkeeping is easy, and so is the yearly reports.

Nice done software. Does what it should, does it really well. And nothing else. Just do your work, and use Accounts for the tedious chore that accounting often is;-)

ANONYMOUS  What a wonderful piece of software. I had looked at QuickBooks and MYOB Account Edge, but both these applications have terrible interfaces... not very Mac-like. The only significant thing Accounts lacks is support for multiple currencies.

    B. CRAIG  I have used Accounts for some time and really think it is a great "bang for your buck." I like the way it uses true accounting principles. I also like that expenses and income accounts are accounts and not categories. The creators are also very responsive.

My only complaints are the reports are limiting and as the year goes on the program gets slower (as the transactions pile up).

KURT L.  I would echo the comments of previous reviewers... Accounts is not the swiss-army knife of the Mac personal finance universe, but rather like a good adjustable wrench: it won't boil your coffee, it won't cut down small trees, but if what you want to do is twirl nuts it does this with wonderful consistency and ease. Aside from its interface, which I find straightforward and relatively easy to use, one of its strengths is adherence to accounting principle. Your accountant may not be able to import from Accounts to whatever he/she uses, but s/he will respect you for choosing a program that really has the basics of recording financial transactions right.

Two quibbles arose for me while using the program. As of this release, there appears to be no search function, so if you want to find that check you wrote to charity sometime last year you'll have to do some manual trolling through the date ranges. My only other complaint is that once accounts are assigned they appear in numerical order, not alphabetical or a user-defined order. Numbered account prefixes might be the way that the pros do it, but for the rest of us searching through a list ordered by numerical prefix is inefficient.

ANONYMOUS  Very good program with a brief learning curve. I now get receipts for everything I buy and enter my data daily to have good finanical records. Works seamlessly with OS X. Finally, a program that is easy to understand and use and well worth the money.
