DESCRIPTION
iPhoto Library Manager... Apple's iPhoto is a convenient application to use to organize and edit your digital photos, but it restricts you to having to keep all of your photos in a single, monolithic library. iPhoto Library Manager adds an additional level of control over your iPhoto collection by allowing you to keep your photos in multiple libraries and transfer them back and forth without losing your keywords, ratings, and all the other information you've worked to assign to your photos. Libraries can be split into smaller ones, or smaller libraries can be merged together into one large library. You can keep your photos on an external drive or another computer on your network, share them with other users on your machine, sync them all with your iPod, and use iPhoto Library Manager to keep track of it all.
iPhoto Library Manager offers the following FREE features:
- create new libraries
- maintain a list of multiple photo libraries and switch easily between them
- see the albums in each of your libraries at a glance
- see the size, version, and modification date of each of your libraries
- extract photos from the folder of a damaged library
- modify the permissions of your libraries, handy for sharing among multiple users
In addition, registered users of iPhoto Library Manager can:
- create shortcut files, allowing you to open your libraries directly from the Finder
- copy photo albums from one library to another, preserving all of the metadata associated with your photos, such as the title, date, rating, comments, and keywords (requires iPhoto 4.0.3 or later)
- merge multiple libraries together into a single library (requires iPhoto 4.0.3 or later)
- Collect photos from multiple libraries into a single folder for syncing with your iPod (limit 100 photos for unregistered users)
WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.5.5:
- Fixed a bug where iPhoto's auto-split would not be disabled during a merge, causing imported events to be split up when they shouldn't be
- Fixed a problem where remote volumes would not be selectable when using the "Add Library" button
REQUIREMENTS
- Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later
- Apple iPhoto (some features require iPhoto 4.0.3 or later)

ZX Please add this option!!! Preferences option allows the user to specify which Library (if any) ILM should register when it quits, so that subsequently launching iPhoto (or the other iApps) always opens the same Library. The selected Library is indicated in the Library List with a blue dot.

PABLITO the only feature that I miss is one that we used to have with iPhoto Diet, that is a way to delete originals once you have modified versions of the photo. I hope to see something like this soon in this software that is amazing!! (Version 3.5)

ROBERTCOOGAN Very useful program! I have two different libraries, one for work (on my MBP), and one for home (on my iMac). Now I can use this little app to switch between them. (Version 3.4.5)

PETER BLACK My iPhoto Library just topped 10,000 images. I've wanted to sort them for ages, so I spent an hour or thereabouts looking and trying the various iPhoto library managers and this one is clearly the cream of the crop and well worth the shareware fee. It is smooth and easy to use. I would like to see smart albums preserved when transferring/copying but I don't know if that is possible. It would also be mucho cool to have automatic syncing from the main library to other libraries containing that image. This is a great piece of software that I am enjoying using. Thanks p (Version 3.4.3)

HUBBERBUBMAN Excellent Software! I´d like to suggest just one more essential feature that would make the whole concept complete: to extract a complete library into a folder system corresponding to the album hierarchy within the iPhotoLibrary. That would be sooo useful to me. i know it is possible because there was a PPC app around which unfortunately doesn´t work on my intelmac. Please, Mr. developer! (Version 3.4.2)

NIGEL2112 May I suggest that copying album hierarchy is the whole point? If you shot Raw photos iPLM does NOT copy both the raw and processed jpeg, only one or the other. This means that if you have raw pics and tweak them (which iPhoto then saves to the jpeg version in the Modified folder of it's library) iPLM is still incapable of moving BOTH to a new library. Unfortunately, (and please correct me if I'm wrong) this shortcoming renders iPLM not much better than iPhoto Buddy. If you need to copy between libraries just use iPB or export to a folder on the desktop, restart iPhoto (with Option key held down) to pick your other library and copy folder that to the iPhoto window. I suspect it is not possible to copy album hierarchy from library to library, or the dev would have done it. But if he can do it, he'd have something worth paying for. I wish Fat Cat success in accomplishing this. (Version 3.4.2)

NIGEL2112 Ok. I stand corrected! The email I received from the developer stated quite clearly that iPhoto Library Manager DOES indeed copy file hierarchy.

J'ai fait les opérations de transfert entre les photothèques iPhoto de mon MBP et le iMac de la maison. Déconcertant de facilité, même si pas traduit en Français. Bravo au(x) développeur(s). I made the operations of transfer between picture libraries iPhoto of my MBP and the iMac of the house. Disconcerting of ease, even if not translated into French. (Version 3.4.2)

MAGOSILVAN I didn't yet compare them, but iPhoto Buddy is FREE and should do about the same things. (Version 3.3.3)

MACSOLU You should have compared them. I did. There's NO comparison -- iPhoto Library Manager is the CLEAR winner on features. Well worth the price! (Version 3.4)

PEG DASH FAB iphoto library manager does much more than allow multiple libraries, it truly manages them. the free version has many nice features, such as inspection of library size and contents at a glance. one feature from the licensed version that i use a lot is moving a folder of photos (or an entire library) from one iphoto library to another. this is a clumsy operation if all you have is the alt key; with iphoto library manager, it's drag-and-drop. iphoto library manager is small, fast, and unobtrusive. i have used it for a loooong time and it has been completely stabile and reliable. the developers have been very responsive in tracking iphoto version changes. i replaced iphoto with iphoto library manager in my dock a long time ago. i agree that this application is worth many times its purchase price. the license that i purchased years ago has continued to remain valid across many version updates. ps: i am not connected to iphoto library manager or its developers in any way; i'm just a satisfied customer with a digital camera, an itchy trigger finger, and tens of thousands of digital images.
