ISLANDMIKE There is a public beta now and the application is called NowX (code named NightHawk). You can sign up and try it at http://betareg.nowsoftware.com/ I used to really like Now Up To Date, and like many others have been frustrated at the length of time it has taken for the developers to upgrade. I have yet to find anything quite like it however -- any one else find something that is currently available that is similar? But in case you aren't checking the Now Up To Date website and do happen to check here on MacUpDate, there you go if you want to check out the "new" version. (Version 5.3.2)

ACCOUNTCLOSED If you aim to wait for this developer to deliver a release of "Nighthawk" (now nearly a YEAR past the announced beta release date), think twice. It is a supreme irony that this company took the name "NOW Software." NUDC was YEARS trying to come right for OS X, and never did. To this day, the last release (5.3.2) remains quirky, and the last Leopard update available on the developer's site is dated 07 APRIL, with no ETA info on Nighthawk—not that we could believe any timetable they offered, they've moved it back so many times. After tearing my hair out over bugs that survived release after release and getting no response from the company to repeat emails, or a blithe "we're working on it," I figured they had a covert plan to run the company into the ground for the write-off, since nothing else explains such striding and relentless irresponsibility to customers. The sad bit is that NUDC in its day (pre-OS X) was far and away the best program of its kind for Mac. The much touted "Nighthawk," if it ever arrives, probably will live up to the rotten reputation this company has worked hard to earn. (Version 5.3.2)

DONMONTALVO I had high hopes for Nighthawk. But I hung it up months ago. This is vaporware. Even if they do release this, based on NUDC track record, I'll stick to Apple's built in solution. At least we never have to worry about when it'll come out or when bugs will be fixed, and it's free with OSX. I'll be happy to look at Nighthawk when it comes out, but only for kicks - I would never recommend it to any of my clients. Don Montalvo, NYC (Version 5.3.2)

ROBERT COOGAN Very nice, but it badly needs integrated an e-mail client to be truly useful. I use Entourage 2008 which meets this need, but handles IMAP badly - so I really need a replacement. NUTDC is a great app, but without that e-mail functionality I would be reduced to jumping back and forth between NUTDC and Apple Mail. More trouble than it's worth. Hope the devs are incorporating this into nighthawk, though I did not see this mentioned on the website. (Version 5.3.2)

AKROBAT Yipee! Well, it's been a year since your post and Nighthawk is.... nowhere to be seen. (Version 5.3.1)

I paid for the upgrade, to allow the company actually making Nighthawk a product. Did that yippee a year ago and fell thoroughly yippee ripped off now. (Version 5.3.1)

WINCO Now much much better. Reminders work. Menu bar works. Cleaner interface. Time to consider NUTD/NC once again. (Version 5.3.1)

SBDAIGO I have been using Now for a long time, since v3. I read the comments others write and I wonder sometimes if we are using the same application. I know that Now has had its struggles with moving to OS X, but applications that relied so heavily on the things Apple changed (menu bar, daemons, etc) have made it really really hard on a few applications that I have depended on. And just when they get a work around .... Apple changes it again - just ask Unsanity and even Chronos with their PIM for Mac. For a PIM, this is the most robust one out there. Finished .... No, moving in the right direction ... Yes. The way it does categories for sharing, there is none out there like it, it really is great. Also, my alarms are right on since v5.1, so I don’t know what the other comments mean. I hope this helps someone. (Version 5.3)

FYESKIP We've used NUD for many years, possibly since before 4.0 (my memory's not so good anymore). We don't use the Contact portion, so I've nothing to add or subtract there. For the most part it works great, allowing us to keep track of our business obligations, both sales and meetings. We have run into a problem, and perhaps someone has a solution: Appointments that are on the calendar can too easily be altered or deleted by mistake by someone viewing that data. A mistakenly hit key or space bar can completely change the details of an appointment, and that doesn't begin to address the errant swipe of a mouse that moves an appointment, etc., from one date to another. There isn't any way to lock appointments permanently, or have a dialogue box come up that questions an edit, intentional or otherwise. Assigning owners and passwords only means that others need to supply a password *once* and they have the right to edit forever. I'm shocked this hasn't been addressed; why have a database that's meant to be shared and not have a way of protecting the data I've input? Other than this it works great. (Version 5.2)

SBDAIGO There is a check box in the pref’s that says “Alert On Public Event Deletion” in the General tab - this is what we use and it at least gives a warning. (Version 5.3)

DAYCARE After checking out/using several other products, I switched back to NUD (under OS 7/8 I was running 'Now'). Sure, there are some things that could be better - but for my needs, NUD is fine. Supprt is fair and helpful, functionality is OK - and it _works_ Until now, I'm happy with it. I don't use Now Contact - just Now up to Date (Version 5.2)

JOEBLOWJAPAN Now Up-to-Date used to be a great product, but that has changed, and I cannot recommend it at all simply because it doesn't work properly and Now Software is deceptive about the program's problems. I used NUTD for OS9 for years. Menu bar reminders were a key element in my home office. I bought Now Up-to-Date 5.02 in July 2005. Guess what? No menu bar reminders, though the preferences had that option, and they advertised it. To quote Matthew in their support department, "...Menu bar alerts are not possible in Now Up-to-Date right now. I am embarrassed to point out that they were not removed from the options in preferences." And there was absolutely no mention of this on their support website. Why did they hide this? So I switched to dialog box alerts. Totally unreliable. There was mention of this problem, however: Lots of suggestions on how to (spend a lot of time and) delete, rebuild, archive, save, reinstall, etc. All of that, plus clean system installs and more, and still I had unreliable "reminders" which were useless. To quote Matthew again: "Reminders for repeating events are not very reliable in our current release of Now Up-to-Date & Contact. We have done some serious work in 5.0.3 and hope to see them improve. Version 5.0.3 is due out in a matter of weeks." So I waited, then reinstalled, deleted, rebuilt, archived.... Again, no luck. I should not have waited. After all my wasted time trying through several updates to make NUTD work I had to give up and use iCal to get reliable reminders. But Now Software has a 30-day return policy, so no refund for me. Instead of trying to make their product work I should have chucked it in at the start. And there is still no fix on their support website. They cannot even find my email to them. Pathetic.
