DESCRIPTION
FinderPop is a Universal preference pane that extends OS X's contextual menus using a FinderPop Items folder much as the Apple Menu Items folder used to do for the Apple menu.

It has other features too:

  • Control-free popup in the Finder - handy for those with one-button mice.
  • A launcher that takes up zero screen real estate, merely a click on any blank area of menubar away,
  • A handy filesystem browser, allowing quick and easy access to files and disks in the Finder,
  • A Processes menu (Command-click a blank menubar area.)
  • Fast access to 'Where's that dratted file I had on the Desktop?' (Shift-Click a blank menubar area.)
  • A comprehensive collection of vaguely beer-related aphorisms in the Aboutbox.

Please use the FinderPop Help button in the preference pane; there are many features in FP that are not immediately obvious. I'm working on it :-) The FAQ in the Help is also worth a read. Most UI elements have fairly comprehensive help tags, so just hover the mouse over something if you're not sure. The 2.1 manual is also available online.

LOUKASH  I have tried and paid for many FinderPop OS X "replacements" in the past, but none has ever come close to the real thing. In fact, not even the reborn FP versions 2.0 and 2.1. But now with v2.2 FinderPop is back where the OS 9 version left off, and even more. Welcome back!

P.S. A big Thank You to Ittec, Folder Glance and Butler (which is a class on its own, actually!) for bridging the gap for the past few years.

CORTIG  This is a MUST HAVE application. It's been around for ever and there sure is a good reaon for that. I can't believe Apple didn't simply acquire it to make it part of the System.

It has always been extremely stable for me and the Author constantly adds new features for Free!!

Installed on all the machines I lay a hand onÂ…

DRDUL  Not sure where all the earlier reviews went, so I'll add another raving recommendation. FinderPop is one of my favourite apps. I use it constantly to move files around, launch apps and set file attributes. It is particularly useful for me because I use two 30-inch screens, which means that without FinderPop I'd have to move my mouse all over the place to reach the menubar, the dock or a Finder window. Instead, everything is right where my cursor is with a simple right-click of the mouse.

Not only is FinderPop a great app, but the dev has been very responsive and helpful with the occasional problem, which have been resolved in newer versions. Time for me to donate again!

DRDUL  Turly (the developer) was unfortunately involved in a collision with a bus a couple of months ago, and as a result has warned FinderPop users not to expect a 10.6-compatible version for a while. See http://www.fnarr.net/fp/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17 for details. Here's hoping Turly recovers quickly and completely.

Like many others, I have become totally dependent on FinderPop, and will be at a complete loss when I upgrade to Snow Leopard next month. I would welcome any suggestions for apps that offer some of the functionality and ease of use of FinderPop, that I could make do with until FinderPop is upgraded for OS X 10.6.

EASER  This has always been indispensable for me. I'm not certain, but I think he introduced another, subtle feature I had asked for long ago. When I right-click, FinderPop does allow me to have a smaller font size for the pop-up menu. But now it also gives me that smaller font size in sub-menus as well. I used to use Fruit Menu to accomplish the latter, but I've never gotten that (or most other Unsanity products) to work in Leopard. Now if he can just do windowshading, the world will be perfect!

MAGOSILVAN  If you have a wide screen or few menu items it's wonderful! Only two little problems:

putting apps in the folder "FinderPop Items" they are transfered there and you see only them, no more "FinderPop Items".

So here's theTip:

- search the folder "FinderPop Items" (it's in yourname/Library)

- make an alias of it

- put the alias inside the original

Now clicking in menu bar you'll find both what you inserted and "FinderPop Items" and you can easily continue adding items.

Since in "Processes" FP shows active apps, now you may even deactivate the Dock and gain space on screen!

If you like a clean desktop, I suggest to use in combination with Camouflage.

ESPIRIDION  I just installed it and love it. I donated back when I used it in OS 9. Turly is not only friendly and helpful, but also quite funny :)

I had tried previous versions in OS X but for some reason I always removed it. This time it's staying.

With a single click I have access to specific Folders, Desktop, Applications, System Preferences, etc. And that's just scratching the surface of what can be done with FinderPop.

Thanks Turly! You certainly deserve another pint. :)

ERIC WOEHLER  Finderpop DOES work on Snow Leopard - under some circumstances.

It wont work when Finder is app in front, but if other apps are in front, and if you have set the FP pref so if you click on the unused menu bar, FP opens. It will not work as a contextual menu on the desktop, but limited use is available - as long as Finder not the front-most app.

All best wishes to Turley for a speedy recovery!
