DESCRIPTION
Iconographer is a fully-featured icon editor. It allows you to both change the icons of items and to edit the icon resources used by various programs. Iconographer has been created from the ground up to deal with many icon formats, including: classic Mac OS (8-bit icons only), Mac OS 8.5+ (32-bit icons with 8-bit icons), Mac OS X (128 x 128 icons in .icns files), Windows and Windows XP (.ico files), and Mac OS X Server (48 x 48 icons in .tiff files).

WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.5 adds the following:
  • Support for importing and exporting of individual icon members and entire icons to TIFF, PNG, Photoshop and other graphics formats
  • Support for smooth and blocky scaling
  • Interface now uses Quartz font anti-aliasing
  • Holding down option when using the "Complete Icon" command now regenerates all members
  • Fixed bug that caused color artifacts when using the "Copy Icon and Mask" command

TENGEES  This was always the best icon editor for Mac OS. Unfortunately the developer hasn't updated it in ages. It still seems to work fine.

It is now Freeware. On his site he gives a free password:

User name "Iconographer is now free" and the registration code "HG066414"

As you'll see when you go to dowload.

L008COM  Great little app. I use it in conjunction with photoshop all the time. Its real easy to use them both to make favicon's for web sites, and of course you can load icons into photoshop with their full transparency.

BUT IT NOT A UNIVERSAL BINARY. In fact it hasn't been updated in quite some time. It is due.

FREEFROG  All previous versions have been excellent for this straightforward icon editor, but version 2.5 adds some handy features and now native to OS X. Great value for this powerful tool.

SWEATY EDDIE  I've had some issues with this release, but nothing critical. The author has always responded promptly and helped come up with workarounds and fixes. All things considered, still the best choice for Mac icon development.
