DESCRIPTION
SeaMonkey is a web browser that shares much of the same base code as the popular Firefox web browser. It also contains an advanced e-mail and newsgroup client, IRC chat client, and HTML editor.

The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to deliver production-quality releases of code derived from the application formerly known as "Mozilla Application Suite". Whereas the main focus of the Mozilla Foundation is on Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird, our group of dedicated volunteers works to ensure that you can have "everything but the kitchen sink” and have it stable enough for corporate use.

WHAT'S NEW

BOBC4775  i have only een using tiger for a few weeks and tried seamonkey because i didn't care for safari.

I'm pleased with seamonkey (v1.7) except for the fact you cant copy and paste. When I try to highlight text, as soon as I move the trackball (logitech marble) I get a menu that looks like I right clicked. The copy and paste works fine in other apps.

i found mention of this problem from 2006 but can't find anything recent. Is this a seamonkey bug or is it a logitech unintentional negative enhancement?

thanks,

Bob

JCRAIG  Strange how the screenshot of the MU website is displayed on the left side of the page, when in my Camino and Minefield builds it is centered/dynamic.

BILL.BOAK  This browser is much faster than Firefox or Safari. Except for Camino, it renders my.yahoo.com pages faster than any of the rest. I also like the way it handles cookies. Keep up the good work.

GEEPZ  I like it. You do have to change the theme, but there are some good ones available. I hope this continues to be supported as an alternative to Firefox. It is very fast on old machines and it's nice to have the e-mail client built-in. Hopefully more developers will get involved. The all-in-one approach definitely has life left in it, but the components could use a major update (think Flock).

PORCUSTAL  like has been said this is a really great web browser if you like the old Mozilla. It has your basic web development abilities and usual mozilla/firefox browsing features. bulkier but very kitchen sink, which is what i like. Its html editor could use some updateing to be a bit less buggy but its just fine for quick edits...

GEORGE24  I really enjoy using SeaMonkey.

Having the email client and browser in one application is great. I like it simple - it works - it is that simple.

With SeaMonkey my 83 yo mother can use one program on her Mac and not get flustered. I can answer her questions since I use the same program (by telephone since we live in different cities).

If you don't like it don't use it. Don't knock it either because it does what it is supposed to do.

BTW - my cellphone has no camera! And I don't text. My 1st Mac was the 512k Fat Mac.

So at one time I was on the leading edge of the curve. I enjoy where I am now and appreciate the work of the good folks who have provided a super application for many OS.

DMNELSON  Very reliable for me. Not surprising considering it is the evolution of the original Mozilla, so there has been plenty of time for all the kinks to get worked out. And I use this over Firefox+Thunderbird because I actually kind of like my mail and browser in the same app for some perverse reason. I didn't back in the day when Netscape was popular, but I do now.

I take it you don't use it to compose HTML.

The composition tools are almost as horrible as years ago.

DMNELSON  No, I don't use it for writing HTML. I do sometimes develop websites and I have sworn off WYSIWYG editors entirely so I just ignore that part of the suite. :)

**...

It feels old. It looks old. It looks ugly.

Being the full suite, there isn't a single decent looking theme available for it.

It's far more un-Mac-like even than Firefox.

"Faster than other browsers on Intel Macs"?

Not in THIS universe.

May have it's uses, but for browsing, i'd choose it last among the free browsers.
