BatChmod allows you to change any specific privilege or ownership without affecting the others (ie, changing the group without affecting the owner, or adding or removing a specific privilege without affecting all the others).
FILP I'd been fighting (and, mostly, losing) permission battles with Leopard almost since the day I installed it. Constantly being told I could not do something, did not have access, need to enter password, etc. Then I got BC, ran it on the troublesome folders, and all is peaceful and quiet and happy again. Really useful app. (Version 1.6)
FORMICA Fantabulous. Enabled me to fix the permissions of a Firewire drive that had somehow gotten screwed up, and now I can recover the data on the drive before erasing and reformatting it. I'm very pleased. (Version 1.51)
BRIANHOLMES This app is excellent at removing the ACLs! Instantly goes through and removes all previous ACL's including the folders and items in the folders. I've tried a few of the other apps that remove the acl's along with doing other permission changes and I've found that it works better (and quicker) to use a seperate app for that and just have the 2 windows open. (Version 1.51)
SAM ROWLANDS BatChmod brings back a familiar interface that works. The GetInfo window in Leopard's Finder doesn't work half the time and prefers to display a bunch of permissions for 'Unknown' that cannot be changed. It doesn't matter how many times I repair my permissions these files are always buggered. BatChmod to the rescue, not only is its interface logical, it works too! Darned amazing if you ask me. Once the permissions have been fixed with BatChmod they show and work correctly in the Finder, Result! (Version 1.51)
DALLASCLUBGUY Something I did caused the permissions on 4 outboard hard drives to go to "Custom" and a small lock icon to appear in the lower left hand corner of the drive icon. I could no longer open the drives. I was told I did not have adequate permissions. I could unlock the pad lock located in the get info area, but I could not change anything. This wonderful utility was able to bypass this lick level and get to where it was really locked and undo my mistake. It's simple. It works. It really works well. (Version 1.51)
JONATHAN9 I've encountered that same problem with outboard drives and a Drobo with 4Tb
I've downloaded BatCHmod but I'm not clear about the precise settings to use. I've sent a note to the developer but incase I don't hear back, I'm hoping you'll share your settings.
Thank you (Version 1.51)
