JQMUSICMAN  Path Finder aspires to be something beautiful... and it succeeds on many levels --- except one. Stability. The devs are super-friendly and helpful --- but they can't seem to make their software stable. I've installed a few different versions of Path Finder over a period time hoping the bugs would be gone and the results have always been the same --- unreliable performance. Most notably are random crashes and freezes, especially when "hiding" the application. There are other minor annoyances that I could easily overlook, but the stability issue just can't be ignored. I've sent crash reports and have traded emails with support several times and I know they're trying hard. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they'll eventually get the large issue fixed because Path Finder would be dream come true. As it is, I find it unusable :(

ROBOTANK  It's unfortunate to hear that--I find Path Finder absolutely indispensable. I've been using it for a couple years and, though I have experienced minor glitches, I've encountered very few crashes or other major stability issues. I guess it just goes to show how much experiences with particular pieces of software can vary from user to user, for reasons that aren't always apparent. I hope you're able to get your issues with PF resolved sooner or later. It's miles ahead of the Finder, and it's a shame you can't use it!

JQMUSICMAN  It is truly unfortunate but good to know folks are using it with success. For the usefulness that Path Finder would bring, I'd gladly pay twice the price.

I do want to add that my experiences are based on the 5.2.2 version for Leopard, not 5.5.6 as noted by Macupdate under my comment.

MACLOVER1.1  I love this software but for the last few versions I have experienced a sluggish update (if any) of the windows.. meaning I'll make copies or download files or whatever usual finder stuff and Path Finder will not update the current window.. sort of makes PAth Finder verge of useless if I have to check what my files really are using the finder... what's up with this ? I think this annoyance may have started with Snow but I'm not sure...

KEIRMEISTER  I'm amending my previous review. I can confirm that DropBox was indeed the culprit. Since I got rid of its CM plugin, Path Finder has been absolutely wonderful again!

W100D001  Fantastic finder navigation! Love the concept.

However folder contents do not update for me.

I export to PDF out of InDesign to a folder and those PDF's do not show using Path Finder.

As well as when I change a folder name, it will not show the new name but it will show the new name when using the Apple Finder. Bueller... Bueller?

KEIRMEISTER  I love Path Finder and what it can do. I've had it for a little while now. But I gotta say, things have gone South a bit since Snow Leopard. The last version would hang when I selected a large group of files. I just upgraded to v5.5.5 and now, when I try to use the contextual menu on a .jpg on the desktop, Path Finder just beach balls. So simple a function should not cause this much trouble.

COCOATECH  If you have Dropbox installed, its contextual menu interferes with Path Finder 5.5.5. The Dropbox teams should have a fix out soon.

JEFFREY MCPHEETERS  with 5.5.5 and Mac OS 10.6.1 I'm getting a spinning beachball when ever I attempt to initiate a contextual menu. While somewhat slow in 5.5.4, at least it worked. I have to force quit PF 5.5.5 if I attempt a CMM.

COCOATECH  The Dropbox contextual menu plugin interferes with Path Finder 5.5.5 and causes the app to hang. The Dropbox team is working on a fix.

DAN_EX_JAPAN  I've used PathFinder from their Day One - so long ago that I don't remember what it was called when first released. It was Good then, it is Essential now. Cocoatech fixes what needs to be fixed with a persistence that is impressive - and has done so since the beginning. This app is a labor of love and it shows in that it is continually improved. Given that Apple can not and will not change the Finder to make it as complex and versatile as PathFinder - this is The One for those who need more than the Finder offers. PathFinder takes my Mac experience to a whole new level of utility and usability. If I wore a hat I'd tip it to Cocoatech every time I sat down in front of my Mac.

To put this mini-review into perspective - I've been using Macs exclusively since 1986. I now have a Black iBook, a 2 ghz Mini with 24" Apple Monitor and a 2.66 ghz 20" iMac. These are #s 27, 28 and 29 in a long list of Macs that I've bought, used and loved. I also love PathFinder. Considering that I've bought every new OS upgrade since the introduction of OS X (after having waited in line to get the free demo version on introduction) and only had to pay the initial cost and one upgrade license for PathFinder in the approximate same time - I consider PathFinder a genuine bargain!

MACSWEEP  I have tried this app, but it would crash or hang several times a day. I emailed to developer on several occasions, but they could not give me any help. They just said they could not test every model of Mac and those were the breaks.

I uninstalled it, but, since then, every once-in-a-while I get something weird going on with an application or something in the System and I track it down to a file or pref file that is trying to reference PathFinder.

Hope they get the bugs worked out. This app seems like it has such great potential.

MAGENTIS  Once you take the time to play around with all the features and customize it to your needs, PathFinder is an excellent tool. There are so many built-in utilities and functions that I'm still discovering new things after years of daily use.

Most of the Snow Leopard issues seem to be ironed out now. My only real complaint is that PathFinder sometimes chokes when trying to move around a large number of files.

I'm sure it's no easy task for a small team to maintain such a complex program. They have my respect and my recommendation.
