MINDSNARE  WTF? If I add ISO files I get an error "... is in an unsupportet format and could not be added". Same if I add a VIDEO_TS folder. What a ****

Roxio go figure!!!

OCD  I'm glad to see Roxio taking a deserved beating on this review thread. I only hope someone there is "listening" and that all this isn't just falling on "deaf ears"

The best thing to do is not to support or buy their products until they become a responsible developer. Sadly, there isn't any other software that quite meets Toast's feature set, but I feel that there soon will be if they continue to piss off their clients. I see a wonderful opportunity here for some worthy developer to step up and put these guys to shame.

Let that be both a challenge and a plea.

NICK COLLINGRIDGE  Thanks to some reviews below I have discovered Burn, which means that never again will I have to use Toast or struggle with the hassles of dealing with Roxio. They are clearly so focused on cynically making as much profit as possible from the brand that they can't be bothered to spend any money on making the product any good.

They truly are the Ryanair of the Macintosh marketplace - abuse the customers and treat them like **** and just count the shekels as they come rolling in. Maybe one day the marketplace will do what it should do and reject them and their lousy product, but sadly I think it will take a long time before they feel the need to respond.

Whatever happened to people taking a pride in their job and striving to do the best they can?

JON555  The Toast Titanium application, ALONE, is 711 MB. I ask you Roxio, HOW!? That's insane. It's a simple burning application, how on Earth is it almost 1 GB in size? But let's set that aside because those are only the deck chairs on the sinking ship known as Toast.

Random/unnecessary moving graphics, bugs everywhere, memory leaks, lack of multi-CPU support, absurd size, lack of any optimization from the developers, terrible support, and high price (along with consistent high price for every new version) is a summary of what's wrong with this software, not to mention all the other utterly USELESS applications that come with it. I will admit the UI is very nice, but again the random moving graphics aren't helping anyone. I really don't know what happened Roxio, as you used to be pretty excellent, but you've gone so downhill over the years, and continue to do so.

If you haven't already purchased this software, don't. Look somewhere else. Even the free options, albeit less feature-rich, are better than this. I really hope you wake up and smell the coffee Roxio, because if you continue this path of treating your customers like crap, you can expect to find yourself packing the office up and closing your doors. But that's ok, continue producing mediocre software.

Roxio cant seem release a single update without serious flaws... pitiful

And why the heck is every update a complete massive installation? haven't they heard of patching??

***..

BACKPACKER  Toast allowing saving of movie conversions to disk-images (for burning later) is nice.

However, Toast 10.0.5 crashes in latest Leopard PPC if one even tries to add/drag a movie file for conversion/burning; 10.0.4 works fine.

Also, Toast needs the option of automatically sleeping/shutting-down the computer on completion of tasks, just like VisualHub.

REDNAIL  While it's good software I don't recommend anyone buy this. All the problems listed below and the fact that when Roxio decide to upgrade it they will make you pay almost full price again! Even if you've just bought it. Very very poor.

Thanks for pointing out Burn. From now on I will be recommending this software to people instead.

DONMONTALVO  Moved on to Burn (free). Never went back.

License model stinks. Bloat stinks. Support stinks.

Bye bye Roxio.

26CAB40  In the last 3 major revisions of this package, one thing has not changed.

The poor encoding.

Whatever encoder this is using should be buried in an unmarked grave.

Slow, memory hogging and with awful output.

It does not utilize multiple cores in any fashion.

I use Toast to burn discs.

I have to use a range of other software to prepare the video content.

In fact, I have had to use a Windows machine running ripbot264 to prepare BD5 & BD9 discs from my HD files.

There is no 'easy' method on the Mac of turning 1080p content into properly compliant 720p ready for a BD5 disc.

Toast, with a good encoder could clear this up in one fell swoop,

but Roxio have left it to stagnate as long as they continue to make money for nothing from Mac users.

In fact, come to think of it, why use Toast at all.

If the Video processing is junk I may as well use one of the smaller more efficient apps available.

Burn & Liquid CD spring to mind.
