KARINA Probably the best command line ftp application of all, but better to install this via fink or darwin ports. (Version 3.1.8)

ANONYMOUS why? this builds without a hitch on osx, and this way you're getting the latest version instead of whatever someone else has packaged. (Version 3.1.9)

First I've encountered error like the one posted here (Version 3.1.9) which state, dyld: ncftp Undefined symbols: ncftp undefined reference to _getlogin_r expected to be defined in /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib I try a lower version of NcFtp which fits to my MAC OS version, and it works. Here is the site for more NcFTP downloads, http://python.planetmirror.com/ftp/ncftp/ncftp/binaries/ (Version 3.1.9)

ANONYMOUS 1 caveat to review: beware... using the command line rather than a GUI app it is all too easy to type the wrong thing, i.e i wasn't thinking one day and typed get /path/to/file instead of put /path/to/file. This deleted the local file in question. I really wouldn't like to make this mistake on your home directory.....so be careful. Also ncftp almost uniquely has no preference for not dropping the connection, this is infurating. All it needs is something to keep doing pwd or ls every 30 seconds or so. What happens is you turn your back and do something in another app for a couple of minutes, come back and find your connection has been dropped, so you need to reconnect all over again. ANONYMOUS I was searching MU for a decent free FTP client and to be honest don't like any of them. Interarchy is too bloated and is shareware, others are just SFTP and things like Fetch are now almost unusable in OS X. The Finder's own FTP intergration sucks as it mounts FTP volumes as read only even you login with the previlidges of your remote account (I hope this is corrected in the future) I had experimented with the Terminal's own FTP programme which was also pretty pathetic. More out of desperation that anything I d/led ncftp and am so far very glad I did. It is everything that the built in command line FTP client should be and more. (Version 3.1.8)

E_COMMERCE It sounds like you didn't try Cyberduck. Free, simple and non-flashy interface, and handles FTP, FTPS, SFTP, Amazon S3, etc. Sparkle updates, etc. And did I mention that for all of that it's free? (Version 3.2.3)

ANONYMOUS The installer installed files on my computer, but I can't find the ncFTP software anywhere. The Find command yeilds no results. I feel really uncomfortable when I can't find the files that were installed. (Version 3.1.6)

ANONYMOUS You need to go to the terminal and simply type in ncFTp It's a great FTP client, one of the best in my opinion. (Version 3.1.6)

ANONYMOUS If you're looking for a no-bones FTP program that launches, installs and operates like a program - GO ELSEWEHERE. If you enjoy spending 15 minutes reading other comments on how to locate this file, only to have them not work, then by all means - download NCFTP RIGHT NOW! (Version 3.1.6)

ZOOM77 In installer.app click Continue a few times and then go to File > Show Files. That will show you what files get installed. ./usr/share/man/man1/ncftp.1 ./usr/share/man/man1/ncftpbatch.1 ./usr/share/man/man1/ncftpget.1 ./usr/share/man/man1/ncftpls.1 ./usr/share/man/man1/ncftpput.1 ./usr/share/man/man1/ncftpspooler.1 (Version 3.1.8)

CHRISCHRAM Be aware that ncftp 3.1.6 does NOT install in the same default location as version 3.1.5 (or earlier?). The old version went in /usr/local/bin and the newer goes in /usr/bin. (The man pages are also in different locations.) You may want to manually remove the older version. I have been using ncftp since the '90s and have never, never had a bit of trouble with it! ANONYMOUS No third-party software should ever install into /usr/bin. That's for OS-provided software only. If you install third-party software into /usr/bin it will get wiped out by an OS upgrade, where /usr/local can be backed up and restored as a unit. (Version 3.1.8)

ANONYMOUS the reason 3rd party software likes to install in /usr/bin on osx is that /usr/local/bin doesn't exist and isn't in the default path. apparently it's too much to ask of mac users, even terminal-using ones, to learn about icky paths. (Version 3.1.9)

DAVID NEDROW Note that this listing is for the NcFTP client software, not the NcFTPd server. This is one of my favorite ftp clients, as it has autocompletion, bookmarks, etc., all without the overhead of a GUI. The included extras like ncftpget are also very useful and easy to use.
