You pilot your ship through the dreaded "Maelstrom" asteroid belt -- suddenly your best friend thrusts towards you and fires, directly at your cockpit. You raise your shields just in time, and the battle is joined.
The deadliest stretch of space known to mankind has just gotten deadlier. Everywhere massive asteroids jostle for a chance to crush your ship, and deadly shinobi fighter patrols pursue you across the asteroid belt. But the deadliest of them all is your sister ship, assigned to you on patrol. The pilot, trained by your own Navy, battle hardened by months in the Maelstrom, is equipped with a twin of your own ship and intimate knowledge of your tactics.
The lovely Stratocaster R&R facility never sounded so good, but as you fire full thrusters to dodge the latest barrage you begin to think you'll never get home...
PAULNOJUSTPAUL I think I still have my registration letter (yes, letter!) from this app's shareware days. This was a titan in its day, IMHO, and is still a lot of fun today. They get about a million bonus points in my book for open sourcing this one too.
Andrew Welch and Ambrosia are an amazingly cool, talented bunch of people, and they to this day maintain that original spirit and do really great titles.
I'd also recommend checking out Mars Rising and Deimos Rising, written by the very talented Dave Wareing. They give arcade games like Xevious, and Raiden a seriously good run for their money. (Version 3.0.6)
MICHAEL Oh, sweet! I am a huge Ambrosia fan, and how can I forget the game that put Ambrosia on the maps! Just like the original but with updated features, such as network play and access to a WORLDWIDE high score list! Definitely a must-have for any nostalgic Mac gamer! (Version 3.0.6)
JASON Thank god for a fun, free game for Mac OS X! I remember when I use to play this on my old Macintosh IIci at 33MHz. It was great then, and is just as great now. (Version 3.0.5)
