BRENT KASSIS  I was just reading the Exchange reviews over at Eweek, and they chose CommuniGate.I had no idea that Communigate was the cheapest on the market. I was just looking at bynari and Kerio. I found that Kerio shut down thier mailing list because of so many crashes with thier Outlook module, and generally the word was stay far away from them.

Well, I ditto that you get what you pay for. We bout Communigate last week, and are very happy with it. We had no idea it had IM included and a mailing list manager too.

All this talk about Communigate being way too expenses, comparred to what? Freeware?

BRENT  We recently where forced to update our e-mail server because EIMS was being flagged as an open rely and we were black listed. After several attempts to"Fix" EIMS we went with Communigate Pro because of recommendations from others who had gone through the same hell. And Communigate Pro seems to be one of a few that would pass all the blacklists tests. (EIMS and Apples Email server all say they aren't set up to be an open relay but they fail blacklist tests so you get flagged anyway).

Sure it isn't cheap or free but you all know the saying you get what you pay for and with e-mail server software it is so true! We live in a world of almost uncontrollable SPAM and the good old days of using cheap/free software for throwing together an e-mail server without a concern for how SPAMMERS may abuse it are over.

Perhaps there are better solutions for the PC world but on our Mac network this was a great upgrade. We were off the blacklists in lest than two days after installing the new server software and requesting removal. The Web Mail feature is great for our emlpoyees too!

ANONYMOUS  The software is good, but their business is awful, increasing prices threefold over night. Almost extorsion. Most of their clients left last year for other products or Open Spurce. Very sad. Very stupid.

MIKE BRADNET  wow, this product rocks. I installed it in a matter of minutes, and have Eyebeam finally working. We are only 9 people, but if this will do IM and email it is well worth the $600 bucks.

ANONYMOUS  Cool technology, bad marketing.

Sounds familiar?

I've had no issues with this software until one day a couple of months ago, it started quitting every 90 minutes.

For a couple of days, my email communication (and therefore my business) was in disarray, our service tech worked 10 hours to provide a fix which was to automatically start the server when it went down. When I got around to investigate the issue, I noticed that Stalker chose to build a time bomb into the software to make it expire on a certain date. If I had gotten any advance warning that it was going to happen, I might have found it acceptable. Unfortunately, the System gave no warning, the UI shows the license keys but does not decode them, so you do not know what you have licensed and when it is going to expire.

Since then, I contacted Sales twice to get a proposition on how to extend my license and no reply.

So, I now am an ex-customer. Other solutions, including Apple's Mac OS X Server Tiger, offer almost the same functionality at no extra cost.

If you do not need ISP class service and are prepared to pay big money for it, stay away from Communigate.

ANONYMOUS  Stalker Internet Mail Server (SIMS) -- hands down the best mail server for "Classic" Mac OS 7/8/9. Communigate Pro -- overly complicated, overpriced bloatware. Kerio got my company's money. ;-) Fast, easy, and actually AFFORDABLE for small companies like mine!
