DANA SUTTON  This is a great utility that allows very flexible use of Kensington mice and trackballs, but now that Leopard has been released it is very much in need of an upgrade to take Leopard's new features into consideration (example of what I mean: one click option could now be to cycle through Spaces desktops)

JOHN-ELI  I just need to say that at least for my setup, these drivers work just as they should.

I've used and Kensington trackballs since the Turbo Mouse 4.0 was a new product (deep into the ADB days), and the hardware has stayed great, in my opinion. The OS X software is no-doubt still less feature-rich than it was in an OS 9 version (version 5.x I think?), and I was very worried that this 3.0r1 version wouldn't work at all for Intel Macs, from the reviews here, on VersionTracker, and elsewhere. But for my Mac Mini Core 2 Duo, running 10.4.10, with the Turbo Mouse USB it works just fine.

It's as configurable & reliable as it was on my older PPC Macs. The acceleration works accurately, and the 'Slowly' and 'Quickly' thresholds are just where they should be, when I move the cursor slowly, it can really go VERY slowly, and ditto with quickly.

So I just wanted to say that my results actually installing it, were very good.

This, after fearing that it wouldn't work at all on Intel Macs, and thus trying USB Overdrive and SteerMouse, neither of which could do the very helpful chording feature that Kensington's MouseWorks driver can do (which adds 2 more button-functions to my 4-button trackball).

So you've kept me happy Kensington, though I'd love it if you could add some speed/acceleration options for the scrolling feature of my model trackball. I've had to settle for the Control-Drag feature in the fantastic program Saft, for great scrolling in Safari.

My advice is try it on your Intel Mac, if it doesn't work, use their good'n'simple un-install app included with the installer.

MACGIZMO  Unfortunately, Kensington's claim that it works with Intel Macs is bogus.

The driver does not recognize my TurboMouse Pro (the black trackball version) connected to my MacPro (OS 10.4.7) no matter which USB port it's plugged in to (including a USB hub).

CHRISCHRAM  I've used Kensington trackballs since the late '80s, but it looks like my Expert Mouse Pro will have to sit in the drawer until a MacIntel version of this driver is released. Please guys, get it out soon before I start to really love or really hate this Mighty Mouse.

    DP-G4-450GUY  What’s New

MouseWorks version 2.5 adds support for Kensington Bluetooth devices, adds support for additional European devices, adds a menu bar status item for displaying the Horizontal Scrolling state, fixes issues with systems using a UFS formatted boot drive, fixes issues with low battery detecton on some wireless devices, and makes other changes to enhance stability.

MouseWorks version 2.5.1 contains a minor change to fix an issue where some users were not having their Kensington ADB pointing devices detected.

MouseWorks version 2.6 added support for new Kensington wireless desktop solutions.

MouseWorks 2.7 added support for new Kensington pointing devices, fixed an ADB pointing device problem, and removed incorrect Low Battery reports for Bluetooth devices.

MouseWorks 2.8 added support for new Kensington pointing devices and wireless desktop solutions, and fixed a Low Battery reporting error.

MouseWorks 2.9 added support for new Kensington pointing devices and wireless desktop solutions. It also fixes problems with Bluetooth support under Mac OS X 10.4.3 and later.

If you are using Mac OS X 10.3 Fast User Switching, you must use MouseWorks 2.4 or later, since earlier versions will get very confused.

VERSANICK  Still don't know what the update does. I just went from 2.6 to 2.9.

However, with every Kensington mouse I've ever had (7 mouses on 3 different macs over the past several years), they all randomly will have the cursor fly to the corner of the screen (the top left corner, for instance) out of nowhere, upon slight movement of the mouse. I've gotten two of them replaced free of charge, I've re-installed software, I've brought them back, etc etc etc. It still seems to happen. It's not as common now with my Optical Elite, but it still exists once in a while.

Great product in general, and great ability to adjust acceleration and speed of cursor movement. Great product.

HALLO  I have installed Mousworks X 2.9 and the same problem occurs: B y power on the trackball (USB) is not recognized. I Have a G5 Dual processor (2.3 GHz) Mac, OS X is 10.4.4. The same problem exists for Mouseworks X 2.8 and OS X 10.4. . After unplugging and replugging the trackball is recognized, by rebooting ( no power off) the trackball is recognized. It seems to be a problem of 10.4.x. By starting with power on, the OS didn't recognize the USB device though the trackball is plugged in. The Kernel Debugger of 10.4.4 says, that the OS is not able to recognize a number for the USB device.

    Has anyone a solution?

CDOCH  I was having the same problem with iMac G5s running 10.4.5 and MouseWorks 2.9 or Mouseworks X 3.0b2.

Here's what I got from Kensington Tech Support (I haven't had time to try it yet):

Thank you for contacting Kensington Technical Support To resolve the issue, please follow the steps given below:

The path for deleting the preferences file is HD >> Users >> select your username >> Home >> Library >> Preferences >> Now delete com.kensington.mouseworks.plylist.

    1) Double click ‘HD’ and type “Kensington” in the search option available at the top right corner of the pane.

    2) Drag all the files into Trash and empty trash (one or two files may be left over, do not worry.), close HD pane.

    3) HD>applications>utilities>disk utility>first aid> choose YOUR HD to the left of the pane and click “repair disk permissions”.

    4) Then restart system after completing above process, restart and download a fresh copy of MouseWorks 2.9 from the website given below:

    http://us.kensington.com/html/1385.html#mac28

    MWInstall_2.9.dmg.sit

    5) Install the software and restart your computer when prompted for.

    This should resolve the issue.

HALLO  I have tried tips of the Kensington Tech Support with MouseWorks 3.0b2 and OS X 10.4.5: no solution of the problem. With a friend I have started an "experiment": on a G4 powerbook: no problem (OS X 10.3.9); on an iMaCG5 (10.4.4): the trackball was not recognized by power on; on a 2K -System: no problem.

By starting by power on: the Bluetooth tools for the Apple seem to start first and the USB 1.1 are not recognized at this moment.

    But what to do??
