HARV  When downloading this updater, the size is 737MB! Apparently, the DL is for every Epson ever made.

But when I used System Preferences/Software Update, the update for my Stylus Photo R340 was only 19.9MB.

Perhaps when the stand alone package is unpacked, only the needed code is installed. I dunno.

I doubt Epson will comment, but maybe someone who really knows whereof he/she speaks will chime in re this size disparity.

A for me, this updater is uneventful. No better, no worse. At least so far. But then, I was not having problems to begin with and I have an old printer.

ISLANDMACMAN  Installed via Software update. No major issues, though printing borderless 8x10 is still problematic, often resulting in misaligned images regardless of "fit to page" or "center image" settings. Image quality to 5x7 is flawless though. Epson Artisan 810.

MCTEXT  This is a know Photoshop problem with Epson printers.

Go here for a workaround.

Typical of Adobe/Epson that this hasn't been rectified.

DONKEYOTAY  It's not loading for me. I double-click on the package and get the following message:

"Alert

This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."

Am using 10.5.8 on a 1.66 dual core mini.

Any ideas?

MCTEXT  Just downloaded *all* the Epson drivers and my Stylus Photo 890 is still only showing up as Guttenprint.

And ... the Printer Ultility (Epson Printer Utility 4.app) isn't working either.

Any ideas?

ELIJAHG0  Added support for the Epson R200 this release, and it works perfectly. I've got my R200 connected to an Airport Extreme, which the Gutenprint drivers don't work as well with. The official ones work with no problems at all.

The remaining ink and head cleaning features work over wireless too!

RONL  I highly recommend Gutenprint drivers (currently at version 5.2.4) over the Epson drivers.

http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php

This download will include "Gutenprint Utility for EPSON Inkjet Printers." So you can clean your nozzles, and check if all colors are printing properly.

My experience (and many others) is that Gutenprint's open source drivers offer more features and are more reliable.

RUDHY  EVERY time I install new drivers I MUST RESET printing system, because of "not properly installed" Epson printer! I have more than one printer and I'm sick of this! I must agree with other commentators saying "don't fix if it's not broken".

So, if your Epson is working properly, spare some time and DON'T download these drivers!

MUDFLAPPER  It took me nearly a week to get my Epson 1280 working correctly after the last Epson driver update, so, in this case, I'm a firm believer in the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" school of thought.

If your Epson is printing fine, if you can check the ink levels with Epson Printer Utility and if your printer color profiles are in order, I would wait a while before installing this update. Or just skip it altogether.

It's not that I don't trust Apple, i don't just Epson. Epson printers, although they probably deliver the best print quality available in a consumer-grade home printer, are very touchy. On top of that, Epson's Mac support is notoriously awful. So, proceed with extreme caution.
