DESCRIPTION
BIAS Peak Pro, the world's most popular stereo audio editing, processing, and mastering application for the Macintosh is now better than ever.

From serious sound design for film, video, or multimedia, to rapid-fire broadcast editing, to music production limited only by your imagination, Peak 4 does it better than anything else. Create unique dance loops and remixes. Optimize audio for Internet streaming. Dust off that pile of vinyl records and convert them to CDs, ultra-portable AAC (MP4) or MP3 files, or to just about any audio file format on Earth. Craft soundtracks or fix audio problems for digital video. Maximize your music's sonic quality and then burn your own replication-ready audio CDs.

All that's just the tip of the iceberg. Dig in and hear for yourself exactly what Peak 4 can do for you. It just might explain why more music and audio professionals depend upon BIAS Peak than any other competing product.

XENOPHILE  WTF?

Logic, Protools, WaveEditor, Sound Studio, Amadeus, Ableton Live...

I don't even do production on my Mac and I know about these apps - I'm sure others here know of more.

ALGOS  Well, Logic, Pro Tools & Ableton Live are not really dedicated audio editors, but you could do some stuff in there. If you only want to edit audiofiles they're expensive options though.

Still, you have a fair amount of options, including some which you mentioned, plus DSP Quattro (there should be a v3 in the making, version 2.5 works fine for me though) and even Audacity for some basic stuff.

MSWFUJOWDFFYC  I guess they'll keep trying to polish this turd as long as people keep shelling out for it.

Yes, BIAS Peak does stuff other sound editing apps don't do, but its interface is doo-doo. I have found other ways of getting my audio editing done.

Goodbye, BIAS Peak. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

APFELZ  just trashed all my BIAS apps…

They treat and punish customers like criminals and call this company policy:

"Dear Customer - of course we will take your money (lots of money)- but in our eyes you are potential criminal and you first have to proof the opposite…"

NO THANKS!

There are other great software companies and developers with a different policy and I'll be glad to give them my money!

COS  Peak 5.2 is very-very buggy on my MacBook. Markers disappear when highlighting a section in reverse order, saving doesn't work if you open the file in column view, but worst of all - it quits randomly, and unexpectedly for no apparent reason. I have no plug-ins other then what came with it, I'm not even using those, just adding markers in a stereo document, and it crashes. I give up on using Peak 5.2.x Peak 4.x always worked great, but this new version is apparently a rushed to market beta version of the application.

This is the worst thing Bias has ever put out. Maybe eventually after we test it for them, they will release a stable professional application. I work in ProTools and the difference is night and day. That app works perfect, no anomilies, never ever crashes.

SBERKLEY  While Peak Pro 5 required an included USB key in order to operate, version 5.2 now utilizes a non-hardware based method of copy protection, offering greater flexibility for customers interested in retaining the use of their USB ports for other peripherals. For Peak Pro 5 customers who prefer the USB key, version 5.2 retains this compatibility. Although Peak Pro 5.2 no longer requires or includes a USB key, customers may order it on request from BIAS should they desire a hardware alternative to the new software based authorization system.

TJRECK  The GUI has always bothered me; very unmac-like.

The fact that it requires a dongle makes this an unacceptable choice.

ANONYMOUS  For years it has suffered from bad GUI design, a clunky interface in otherwords. Still leaves all sorts of garbage behind on your drive, "peakSave.temp" and afm.temp" files chewing up disk space for you. Even though you saved a file it will still ask if you want to save the file before closing. One of the stupidest applications around. It will not let you work on one channel of "dual mono" files, nor extract the channel you want. Dual mono files are used in film production.

ANONYMOUS  Don't fall for the upgrade to Version 5!

1) It requires a dongle!

2) the Free Soap 2 offer is only for full retail purchase. Here is how I know...

I was approached with the pre-order offer and did so... The offer stated siply "Pre-order Peak Pro 5 now, get a free SoundSoap (a $99 value)". Well it's only true if you pay full retail! I don't see where it says upgrades excluded. In fact it says nothing until you eMail Sales inquiring about the absence of the free Soap 2. They will reply "The free SoundSoap 2 product is included for indivdiduals that purchased Peak 4.1 outright rather

than as an upgrade." (I assume they meant 5 not 4.1.)

SO DON"T GET ENTICED BY THEIR BAIT-AND-SWITCH TACTICS. It's a scam for upgraders.

I recommend checking out Wave Editor http://www.audiofile-engineering.com/

JOE GARNERO  I wrote the topic post and also posted it in the BIAS forum. It did not last long in the forum but did get their attention. I explained my reasons for the claim and they understood. They continued to insist I was not eligible for the Soap 2 promo because they state the qualifications in the press release. I stated the pre-order emial offer took me directly to the product page and a pre-order button. I never was directed to nor did I read the press release. Long story short - upgraders who purchased Peak 4 BEFORE April 2005 don't get the freebie Soap 2.

They did eventually agree to compensate me to keep me as a customer - rather than refund my total purchase price.
