TOURNESOL  iMovie 08 is out of this world. So f...in intuitive and fast on my MBP. Love it! And as long as Apple lets you run iMovie HD as well please stop the whining. To bad the videofilters went away, but hopefully they will be back with Leopards CoreVideo. I'll bet we will see a free upgrade to iMovie once leopard is out.

MERLIXIR  Just a note that this 7.1.2 update requires Quicktime 7.5 as well - if you haven't got it yet, the update will not install, and iMovie happily tells you it's all up to date.

GLOBETROTTERDK  When adding an .mp3 sound file to iWeb (iLife 08 version), I get prompted with the message that I should use iMovie's QuickTime web export to reduce the file size. Unfortunately, I can't find this feature or any documentation of this feature iMovie. Help anyone?

ODDSBODKIN  Standalone iMovie 7.1 installer made no difference nor did the removal of files suggested by Thanos - see my reply to the Thanos Sept post.

THANOS  Hey, remove avc1Decoder & mp4vDecoder from your

/Library/Quicktime folder and fire up iMovie. I can now finally launch it!

ODDSBODKIN  Well, yesterday all the iLife '08 upgrades came available from MacUpdate, VersionTracker etc., as stand-alone installers. Now we're getting somewhere, I thought. Somewhere bad it turned out. As with Software Update, the iMovie installer upgraded to the "more stable" 7.1 and the app would not launch. I guess if your idea of stability is inert you're good to go. And as to removing avc1Decoder & mp4vDecoder from the root library QT folder how would you know to do that? And why would it make a difference? It did nothing to make iMovie work for me. Do tech folk read these things or are we wasting our time here? Actually, iMovie 6 had some on-the-fly audio and video editing features I don't see in v.7.

F451  Just like RICHARD103 my existing version of iMovie 7.0.1 was completely hosed requiring complete removal and reinstallation.

ODDSBODKIN  iMac G5 2.16 GHz Intel Duo 2GB ram. Version 7.0 iMovie was running fine. I let Software Update install the 7.0.1 update after which the app would not launch. Believe me, I tried everything and nothing worked except trashing the "upgraded" app and re-installing v7.0 form the iLife '08 disk. Anyone else encounter this? Love the app; hate the upgrade.

JORGEHP  The new iMovie 7.0 (from iLife '08) is simply awesome!

I've played with it and though I do admit that I miss some features, the new interface is simply one of the most intuitive I've seen in years. And this coming from an over-20-years Mac user.

The plug-ins and other features are definitely missed, but I'm sure its just a matter of time (and software updates) before they're taken care of.

If you hate the change, I completely sympathize, but I URGE you to give it a chance. Read the manuals and tutorials. Most of the features are there. And the workflow is a whole lot better. It's more storyboard-like. Just the way its done in Hollywood by the film directors, and with good reason: now you can concentrate and pick the best way to tell your story instead of just editing the film. iMovie now allows you to be more creative story-wise without compromising the editing part.

Give it time, it won't be much, and you'll discover that this new iMovie is really the one it should have been all along!

BOZMEE  Use iMovie 6.0.3 and can NOT insert photos with Ken Burns effect. This IMovie just sound "thuing" and and nothing. And can NOT use themes too...I dont know whats wrong with iMovie, trying to re-install it, if this still happen, time to search FCP...

TIMMARK  Hey did you find the answer to the non-importing photos with ken burns to imovie. I have the same problem. I have 2 power-pc macs and neither one can import photos with the ken burns effect into imovie. PLEASE HELP!
