MONKEYJUNKEY Attention Palm Pre users! This update breaks the ability to sync the Pre with iTunes. Don't know if it does anything besides this. (Version 8.2.1)

SJK I wonder if replacing usbmuxd (v167.1) with the version from iTunes 8.2 (v167) would be enough to restore Pre synching compatibility. (Version 8.2.1)

DOUG ENGELBART This fat app still has no separate visualizer window. Shame on you, Apple. We users wanna see a playlist/minilist window AND a resizeable visualizer window next to it (and not just 'one way or the other'). We users wanna see visualizations while we browse the lists (and vice versa). Older mp3players like Audion etc.pp. offer more viewing comfort and customization. (Version 8.2)

SEANBPERIOD Ugh.. When will Apple improve app management in iTunes? I have 400 apps, and to scroll through them all is extremely sluggish.. Also, apps should be treated like music with a drag and drop interface, rather than guessing the code name for the App in the checkbox screen. There should also be the ability to link the purchased app to the itunes store page, so you can see the description of it, as well as see the developer's updates and notes!

MISHA As someone who has 80% of their playlists being just for an artist.. I really love the new Artists column, at last! And being able to configure iPhone app screens in iTunes... I've been waiting for this for a while. Overall, a polished update. - limited view options (let me make the font tiny so I can see more tracks if I want!) - can't resize album artwork in Grid view - album covers are not effectively cached - no way to sync ratings/play counts of songs from iPods that are set to "manually" manage music (Version 9.0)

THEKIDFROMTHEREDBANK Very good review. I feel exactly the same about all those point. But I'm confused with the grid view and the size of the covers. I'm not sure, but I think in version 8 there was a scrollbar which could ajust the cover-size. Did they really forget that in version 9? Or what could the reason be, to not include such a basic feature? (Version 9.0)

GBK "- can't resize album artwork in Grid view" Nop, Search in "presentation" menu, got only French exact one, you'll find, all's here... Cheers ! iT9 rocks ! (Version 9.0)

MISHA Thanks GBK -- you're right, it's just off by default. On U.S./English iTunes: View -> Grid View -> Show Header (Version 9.0)

ILGAZ Apple has no reason to support FLAC. You should look for FLAC quicktime component and hope the drag drop of FLAC files works. There is a reason for iTunes linking to Quicktime framework you know. Apple had to go with their own lossless codec for a simple reason: Patent troll companies. FLAC is currently worry free but if World's largest media reseller and music player maker supports it, be sure those evil trolls will have their new juicy target. As they know Apple won't really stand to their bullshit too long, they have some sort of settlement guarantee. So, money is really guaranteed. Instead of 64bit support, I would question why wouldn't it link to Quicktime X instead of Quicktime and use (finally!) arrived GPU h264 acceleration under snow leopard. I don't see why everything and everything should be "pure" 133t 64bit while GPU gives some very important thing like, HD playback with 3-5% CPU usage. I have seen on Windows myself, on a Nvidia based Mini. (media player classic) It doesn't have some top end GPU either. (Version 9.0)

MISHA I think that's a poor excuse for not supporting FLAC. Yes, it can be done with tricks like Fluke but why should we have to deal with that? From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLAC "Free means that the specification of the stream format can be implemented by anyone without prior permission (Xiph.org reserves the right to set the FLAC specification and certify compliance), and that neither the FLAC format nor any of the implemented encoding/decoding methods are covered by any patent. It also means that the reference implementation is free software." And I'm only talking about supporting *decoding* of FLAC in iTunes. Apple didn't have to pay the Fraunhofer Institute royalties for decoding MP3, it had to pay them to license the *encoder*. There's a ton of FREE apps that can both *encode* and *decode* FLAC. Why can't iTunes just support decoding them... FLAC is the preferred format for live recordings which are generally free to distribute... I think Apple thought it could do uncompressed encoding better and produced ALE as a result. But we have to remember Apple doesn't always hit home runs. Even they were smart enough to kill the iPod Hi-Fi and acknowledge they can't make speakers like the real guys can. (Version 9.0)

GABBLE What I really miss with iTunes is a real tagging system, with spotlight integration. I would also miss flac, ogg, etc., but tagging support for me is vital. (Version 8.2)

I've always felt that iTunes lacked lots of basic tools that would make me a more frequent user and customer. Tags, bookmarks, all the basics ... (Version 8.2.1)

BUZZARD One change not announced by Apple's release notes is that iTunes 8.2 will apparently make it impossible to jailbreak your iPhone using this version. "Todays iTunes 8.2 update changes the way your computer talks to the device. This affects things like QuickPwn and PwnageTool when they try to identify whats connected. Also, ssh over usb breaks due to same reasons. Fixes are in the works but for now avoid 8.2." For now, don't upgrade if you want to jailbreak an iPhone or iTouch...... (Version 8.2)

STEVEN GOODHEART The more I've used 9.0, the more I'm liking it. The new layout of the iTunes store is much easier to use and navigate, and I like that iTunes U now has it's own special place in the library. (If you're into self-education and continuing education, iTunes U is simply awesome...has some world-class lectures (audio and videos) on almost every subject.) I especially like the new Genius Mixes -- brilliant! At first, I couldn't figure out how to activate the darn thing. Then I found this article: http://macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/22371/ To activate "Genius Mix" in iTunes 9, select Update Genius" under iTunes' "Store" menu. Once the Apple Store gets back to you, you'll see a new entry underneath your Genius Library called, not surprisingly, Genius Mixes. I've been playing various Genius Mixes all day today, and have been really enjoying discovering and rediscovering my own music.
