I just would like a few improvements: an "Info" panel/window showing the file properties and some control about printing, specially things like: fit to page or not and printing in the center of the page, top, bottom and corners. Besides this (some points in the last post mentioned would be great too: resizable selection and applying effects just to the selection), it's very easy to use, stable and very useful. Thanks for making it free. :)

Summary: Goldberg is useful little application that's great to have around on those occasions when all you need is quick and basic image editing features.

I enjoy communicating on message boards and there are times when a picture has more of an impact that words, in these situations Goldberg is great because it's light weight, launches quickly and does it's thing fast which allows me to get back to communicating.

It allows you to perform basic functions such as rotate, crop and resize as well export to the various formats that Quicktime supports.

It is able to access some Quicktime effects for light editing; things like color correction, brightness contrast, etc as well as a few effects like emboss or even add a lens flare. These are just nice little additions more than full fledged features so don't expect to do any real image manipulation with this app.

If video is your thing, Goldberg is able to use QT to add film noise, flares, sepia tones and the like. I've not explored video so I'll refrain from commenting on it's usefulness for that task.

My primary use for Goldberg is the resizing and color correcting images for placing on Ebay or as a way to take a screenshot as something other than PDF. You do this by hitting command + ctrl + shift + 3 or 4, which dumps the image to the clipboard rather than to a file, you then create a new file from clipboard in Goldberg and save it in any format supported.

When it comes time to save, Goldberg allows you to set the quality level of a jpeg but more importantly it provides a preview version of the image so you can gauge the quality before saving.

Pros:

• Compact size, fast loading

• Resize, Crop/Trim, Export

• Limited image manipulation features

• Undo

• It's Free!

Cons:

• Image manipulation features leave you wishing for more

• Can only apply special effects to an entire image and not just a selection

• Selection square is non-resizable, if you make a mistake you have to start over rather than resize the box

• When you save as a JPEG file it defaults to appending a .jpeg extension rather than the more common .jpg

Bottom Line: A wonderful little app for basic tasks at a price that can't be beat. Highly Recommended.
