XENOPHILE  WTF is this brutalization of the english language supposed to mean: "Version 11.5.0.600 includes no changes in features or functionality. Some small elements of the plugin, which in no way affect the multimedia engine, installations, or other performance aspects, have been updated."

If these "small elements of the plugin" affect neither the plug-in's installation, nor its features, functionality, or performance, then WTF are they included at all? Is this the spyware/malware element of the plugin?

Adobe's marketing language manages to tell us everything we don't want or need to know, namely, what's new? I suspect the "what's new" is something that most of us probably wouldn't want on our systems, and something all of us definitely would want the installer to require informed authorization to install.

NAOH  I am also quite mystified at what exactly has been updated in order to warrant a new release.

The only thing that might make sense is that it is a security fix.

But if so, why not just say that?

MIKE SILVA  I really wish Adobe would quite releasing these minimalist updates that supposedly don't do anything, and release a friggin' update that actually made Flash less of a resource hogging whore.

It will be a bright sunny day when even the smallest flash content on a web site doesn't ramp my multicore cpu utilization up to 100%, or crash my browser. How about working on an update that addresses those bits of "functionality" mmkay?

JON555  So the release notes keep saying there is no real changes being made, so what's the point of updating it? What exactly is changing?

BOUSOZOKU  I can repeat my comment from 11.5.0.595. This doesn't work. It hangs Safari while downloading and installing the Xtra Package. The second time I tried it, it asked for permission, something that didn't happen the first time.

It doesn't even go that far with Firefox 3.x, though.

Whoever is in charge of testing must have worked for the defense industry.

ILGAZ  For some reason, when Universal binary shipped, Havok 3d scene, a very important framework/add in disappeared.

Guess why? Havok, which is PART OF INTEL, didn't care to code Intel version of their plugin. What makes me nuts is, we, PPC users got victim of this stupidity too. Upgrade to Shockwave 11, lose one of very important framework which makes shockwave games natively 3d etc.

As result, pool 3d like games won't work.

BOUSOZOKU  Since installing, I tried a couple of the games at www.candystand.com and they no longer work at all through Firefox 3 and through Safari, it shows the Shockwave for Director logo and looks as though it's going to download more (full install?) to complete the package but Safari is hung now.

I'd say that the updates have had a huge effect on performance. Adobe, get your act together.

LEPPE  @3LUSIV3:

Well, try Googling for Shockwave games.

There are many websites where you can play AAA-games (Quake1-3, Half Life, RtCW, Deus Ex, Doom, Warcraft, etc.), but you need Shockwave.

I remember the discussion when Apple switched to Intel. A year after the switch there was still no Shockwave player for Intel Macs. People needed to launch Safari in Rosetta mode if they wanted to play a shockwave game or for viewing a shockwave web site.

3LUSIV3  I don't get it. Do we need shockwave? What's the difference between shockwave and flash?

PABLITO  I don't have it here, and do not intent to install. I do not see why I need it.

Anyway ...

Wiki: Adobe Shockwave (formerly Macromedia Shockwave) was Macromedia's first and most successful multimedia player prior to the introduction of Macromedia Flash (now Adobe Flash). It allows Adobe Director applications to be published on the Internet and viewed in a web browser by anyone who has the Shockwave plug-in installed.

LEPPE  Here is something you can read on the Adobe web site:

"Over 450 million Internet-enabled desktops have installed Adobe Shockwave Player. These people now have access to some of the best the Web has to offer - including dazzling 3D games and entertainment, interactive product demonstrations, and online learning applications. Shockwave Player displays Web content that has been created by Adobe Director."

BDOG  Why is there a "Slim" version that may not include the XTRA(s) you need? Here is a link to the "Full" version.

http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/shockwave/default/english/macosx/latest/Shockwave_Installer_Full.dmg

Adobe: Stop distributing a "Slim" version, it's useless.

XENOPHILE  Right, and I tried searching Adobe's site to find the difference between the "slim" and "full" installers, only to give up after 20 minutes. WTF is the matter with these people?

And WTF doesn't Adobe offer a single download for both Flash and Shockwave? Instead I've got to click through extra pages at their bloated website for updates. Makes no sense.
