DESCRIPTION
G-Force is an audio visualization plug-in for media players and can also visualize auxiliary or "line-in" audio. G-Force features fast anti-aliased effects, millions of possible effect combinations, savable and scriptable effects, video file export capabilities, and unparalleled expandability. G-Force is designed to entertain you on its own, but there are manys it can be customized and extended.

G-Force is unquestionably the most dynamic and sophisticated, yet entirely artistic, music visualization available - and it keeps getting better. This is a direct result of creator Andy O'Meara's strong roots in mathematics and computing theory combined with a passion for music and visual art. If you've seen G-Force in action, you know this isn't an exaggeration... see the screenshots for yourself. Andy's unique abilities and experiences will continue to change the face of music visualization, but it will take many months of hard work and concentration: ultra-dynamic, yet highly artistic, music visualization is uncharted waters.

WhiteCap was the first generation, G-Force is the second generation, and the new project, code-named Project X, will be the third generation of this rising class of software. As much as possible, Andy will focus his time on Project X, retrofitting WhiteCap and G-Force as is appropriate. For example, the third generation engine under development will decrease a G-Force and WhiteCap config CPU load by 100 to 10,000 times, allowing incredibly more intricate configs than previously possible. As one user said, WhiteCap will look "less like a 'wireframe' and more like a 'square of fabric'."

Digital connectivity and computing hardware are opening new doors for digital artists, but these doors can't be opened without user support. A free version of G-Forcewill always be available, but users can also upgrade to an enhanced version, G-Force "Gold". Upgrading to G-Force Gold provides more visual effects and enhanced visual functionality.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.9.1:
  • Improved audio response under WMP on slower systems.
  • Added two new WaveShapes.
  • Fixed text sprites (including 'Blend with Visuals' track text mode).
  • Fixed issue where some upcoming configs weren't precached, resulting in an occasional visual stutter.
REQUIREMENTS
G4 or better, Mac OS X 10.4 or later, Apple iTunes.

FRODO_LIFE  agree with last review, cool thing and I actually used to own it but update fees and purchase fees are to high for a screen saver/visualiser so haven't used it for a while.

CORPSECORPS  Does cool things and gets updated, but $20-$30 is a bit much for a visualizer. 8^(

MISHA  It's only $20 or $30 if you buy the Gold or Platinum version. The plug-in for iTunes is free, right?

PERSON1229  The plug-in is a demo. You have to buy it to make the demo text/banners go away.

But then, you only get updates for a year - and they won't help you get back to a version you're licensed to use if you overwrite it. Their customer support is awful.

CORTIG  This is a nice iTunes visualizer, but the idea (not clearly indicated on the site) that I have to pay my tax every year to get the new point-release versions really doesn't do it with me.

Eudora tried that and it didn't do them much good.

I'd rather stick to the usual notion of getting the point-releases free (with the bugfixes) and paying for more important ugrades when they come out (and if I want to).

I renewed my licence a couple of times, but the scheme eventually got on my nerves.

JTHEISS  Ya I just let mine lapse too. Stupid to pay year after year for an iTunes visualizer. Too bad too. I really like WhiteCap and would have bought that too if I knew I didn't have to rebuy it every year.

JAZZYGUY  I have had it since inception.I like it.Period! It is worth the money and I don't mind paying annually for the updatesas the developer and his staff have to have the funds to maintain this application.Magnetron BTW is not available as the developer is coming out with a new app. (I hope I have the spelling right.)I really don't know anything about Magnetron but this app fulfills my needs completely for a visualiser.

CAL6N  I can't believe the greed of the developer. I've blindly paid the annual upgrade-tax since it was first introduced. I must have paid over $50 by now, and for what? A plug-in for iTunes that was quite clever 5 years ago.

Well, it's not clever now. It may have improved its frame rate at higher resolutions, but it hasn't progressed one bit. The FREE Magnetosphere is at the start of its life and is far more interesting than this, but if you want to see what a real visualiser should be like, go and look at milkdrop on a windows machine. It's free, it's innovative and it shows the G-Force team up for the money-grubbing, amateurs that they are. Check out ProjectM, although it's in its infancy and the many new quartz-composer based visualisers that are springing up.

More problems: Firstly, EVERY time I upgrade, I have to trash all the crap "sprites" that are supplied and replace the collection I've built through the years. Secondly, this POS now insists on licence verification over the internet for EVERY upgrade installation. Thirdly, it won't play nicely through a video mixer and projector set-up.

This greedy bunch of slackers won't be getting their upgrade tax this year, or ever again, from me. It is, after all, just a third-rate iTunes plug-in.

On a more positive note, most versions rarely crash.

SYHARRIS  G-Force is much more than "just a visualizer", it's a device that creates constantly unfolding images of such incredible beauty, breathtaking elegance and mind boggling sophistication that one's esthetic sensibilities are brought to orgasm again and again.

There is nothing out there like it, absolutely nothing.

Images can be saved to savor again and again with just the touch of a key on one's keyboard.

And, of course, it's a luscious compliment to your music listening enjoyment.

The $20 (Gold version) or $30 (Platinum version - with additional features), and optionally, a $15 yearly fee for all updates....which are frequent, is money well spent, imo, considering the unending pleasure and enjoyment it provides.

CAL6N  You must be both rich and easily pleased, mate, because G-Force is an expensive, substandard visualiser. It might have got faster over the years but it hasn't actually progressed enough to justify the annual upgrade-tax. Go and have a look at milkdrop on a windows machine. It makes this look like an infant's finger-painting on a paper doily.

SYHARRIS  Well, I'm neither rich nor easily pleased but G-Force does put a smile on my face while Milkdrop doesn't. I saw Milkdrop on a friends PC and wasn't really impressed.

I do think that G-Force is more elegant and sophisticated.

I will agree, though, that the $15 yearly fee for upgrades is rather greedy and disgusting of the developer, especially since, as you pointed out, G-Force hasn't really progressed all THAT much over the past few years, at least not enough to really justify the annual $15.

Dunno, yet, but I may just stop paying the fee.

But the enjoyment that I've gotten and still get from G-Force has made the overall cost, so far, worthwhile.

If you're not "jazzed" by G-Force and prefer Milkdrop, fine....people have different tastes.

RAY16  Hello Ray,

Unfortunately, G-Force 3.7.2 does not work with Mac OS X 10.3 (it's been a while since it became impossible to support 10.3 give G-Force's graphics requirements). When you enter your e-mail/license code on the download page, you need to download the older version, 3.1.3 that is specified for Mac OS X 10.3. Give that a try and let us know how you make out.

Thanks,

Anton Shevchenko

I post this only for the reason that on site it says 3.7.2 does work on 10.3.9

Another good idea is they should keep an arcive for old versions.

RAY16  My G3 B&W went down awhile back, now I'm on an old slot loading iMac. 400mhz. Reinstalled last build of 10.3.9

updated all the software, but G-Force just shows a black screen, nothing. I think it's cuz at the moment there is only 128 of RAM, I will install 2 512's soon. Or could it be a bug???

8OO8  G-Force is quite processor intensive. Your machine's 400MHz of power may not be able to handle G-Force's requirements.

And merely 128 MBs of RAM is really crippling your machine, especially these days.

It's most unlikely that the problem is due some glitch in G-Force.

I'm running G-Force 3.7.2 on a Powerbook 1GHz with 1.5GBs of RAM and am experiencing no problems whatsoever.

8OO8  G-Force is FAR more sophisicated in what it can do.The imagery is much more complex and has a far greater depth to its beauty.

I believe G-Force's developer had a hand in the creation of the iTunes visualizer some years ago.

iTunes visualizer doesn't seem to be updated or improved upon, it remains as it was when initially created (correct me if I'm wrong, anyone), whereas G-Force is always being improved upon.
