ESPIRIDION  Months ago I mentioned that I've used Speed Download since before it became a Yazsoft product and found that version 5:

1. Lacks the options to Hold and Queue downloads in the toolbar. Accessing these options via a contextual menu is not as efficient as it was before.

2. The small, unobtrusive floater from version 4 is gone.

3. There's a "Web" menu with an item to "Buy Now" even after a person has purchased the application.

4. Adding files from a URL has been problematic.

This is the fourth update since I posted my comments and they were going to "be taken in consideration"

Nothing has changed regarding this issues. In addition, I recently emailed Yazsoft regarding another problem with the "Adding files from a URL" feature. Nine days later I still have not received any response.

Speed Download receives many 5-star reviews and praise from people who have never reviewed anything else. I really wish I could rate version 5 with 5-stars. I like the software and the company. As it is, I have to deduct 1-star from my previous review given the lack of customer support.

F451  Unfortunately this version, for me, has been a complete disasterÑa first in my usage of Speed Download. Freezes my system, and no matter what I try to do to rectify the situation it still freezes. It struggles with my keychain, although there is nothing wrong with my keychain. Even removing all Speed Download components, and starting fresh still leads to the same outcome. I had to revert version 5.1.4.

EEFLOEE  minor hickup in latest version. tells you that you dont have the latest version (5.2) because you got 5.2.0 and asks you to download it again...

anyway...nice and very useful after all. money well spent

HAKR100  I love Speed Download! Been using it for about a year, and it is far more robust than the downloaders I used to use when I used to use Windows.

Good customer service, too.

VFJCZYN5LQXK  This utility is unbelievably good! I bought it as a part of Yazsoft's Promo Bundle. It works perfectly as advertised. I'm particularly pleased with its built-in FTP client. I do web development and this software saves so much time in transferring development sites. Compared to Safari's default downloader this thing downloads everything 4~6 times faster in my case.

Also, don't be fooled by the delay the trial version puts out upon launch. Once registered, the delay is completely removed, and the software launches instantaneously. It's fast in all aspects!

CANOSI  I've used Spee Download for many years and I love it. Downloads are faster and resumable as long as my ISP isn't doing http caching.

MDAY108  Years ago, I'd look at apps like Speed Downloader and think...

"Why on earth would I ever want to spend my hard earned bucks on that?

What's so limiting anyway about the Downloader in Safari or the fox or Camino?"

Now, 5 years later...

just the idea of being without this gem from YazSoft

would be for me like going for a walk around the block

with only one leg.

I simply can't imagine my Mac without it.

It's flawlessly stable...

ridiculously easy to learn...

I can set up downloads for after I go to bed...

and it really does download faster.

I'm starting to explore using it as my primary ftp app now too.

Also, being able to set up items in queue and forget about them is great.

Plus...

Johnny gives impeccable technical support.

The help you get from him feels like being assisted by a real human being...

not just some busy geek who's cranking out responses on his 15th cup of coffee.

But don't just take my word for it...

Put that ancient Safari downloader to use one more time

and download Speed Download right now.

And don't just let it sit there.

Work this little puppy...really work it!

Because if you do...

and you're not a SD convert within a few days...

then I'm sure that after your trial is up

and you return to that good old Safari Downloader...

within a few days...

or maybe even just a few hours...

(for me it was minutes...)

you'll be kicking yourself.

Why?

Because it'll be obvious that

you should've "joined the SD club" years ago.

NXC  One of the best downloader that I've used (including PC arena). It's fast and customizable, also very light on resources. Bug fixes provided frequently. Best of all is the after-sale support. In most cases, my queries were answered within 24hrs. Recommended!!!
