    ANONYMOUS  As an MS SQL DBA who uses a Mac for preference there are only a couple of alternatives. Sadly although SQL4X-J is powerful it just doesn't "feel right" for me

    MacSQL is about 85% of the way to being a great app, but (for me) there are still a couple of niggles that mean I can't switch totally from Enterprise Manager on my VirtualPC...

    For personal preference I like the MacSQL interface and feel, but... There’s a couple of things that are missing that won’t get me switching from my VirtualPC for day to day management.... SQL4X-J is powerful, but I can’t see it making my work day any easier

    However, MacSQL could with a couple of small enhancements, which I’d love to think are already on the to-do list...

    Stored Procedures. For me this is a must as for performance reasons I try and use Stored Procedures wherever possible (one of the sites I manage has over 2.5 million page impressions a day, and every one of those is dynamic from a database !) - being able to review, edit and execute SPs is important.

    Table Structure editing. I like the Table Create dialogue and would love to be able to grab an existing table into that interface when I’m adding/editing columns (rather than having the ‘add column’ function). Would also be neat to be able to re-order columns in the dialogue. Also, in the current edit mechanism I can’t change a column to become an Identity (if I forgot)

    Edit results from a query. When I get data back I’d like to be able to update it (or add rows back into the database). At the moment there is an icon for add/delete rows (but I’ve not seen it live).

    Query Editor won’t let me run a query until I save it. Can be a nuisance. The Query Maker is good, but limited... It doesn’t seem to support multiple tables (or sub selects etc) - in fact I find the two a little confusing !

    Minor things;

    1. for Identity columns, being able to add the start and increment values

    2. would be handy would be good to be able to edit a free-form description. I document within the table structure in Enterprise Manager a lot and miss that facility
